I have used 150's and they worked fine in my 99EG. Dropped a couple deer with them.

Then I switched to Federal Fusion, 165's.


They work good too...

130gr TTSX at 3100fps

Barnes 130 grain TTSXs.

3050 FPS is pretty normal for .308s and they will always give you two holes. They are easiest of the Barnes IME to get shooting really accurate and they kill very, very well. If there's an advantage to 150s or 165s for deer I sure haven't seen it in the ones I have used.

which ever one shoot's the best in your rifle , believe me a deer won't know the difference between 15 gr of lead . Remember the 17 HMR bullet only weight 17 gr take a look at it and in reality this is all you are giving up less 2 gr by using the 150 over the 165 .

Both shoot great, fly about the same.

Either. I wouldn't worry about going heavier than 150 until elk were on the menu.

got it sighted in with 165gr sierra gamekings. now to find a deer

El Cheapo, 150g Hornady Flat base, same for the 165g Hornady Flat base, unreal accurate with a variety of powders, and are monster mashers on deer!

I also shoot the 130g TTSX at 3100*3200, jury is still out...I need a blood trail to follow in the jungles that I shoot in.

I killed a lot of deer with the old Sierra 135g Single shot pistol bullet with a load of 51-52g of 748...never lost a deer with that load...even huge bucks.

Nosler is now making the 125g Accubond in 30 Cal, that would be first on my high dollar list of bullets to try with the same load of 748.

.308 is too much gun for deer, get a .223 or .22-250.

Used to shoot 150's out of my .308 20 years ago started loading 125 gr. Nosler ballistic tips over RL15 for ground hogs in spring...tried it on whitetail the following season, have never seen a reason for anything larger.

I prefer 150's for deer.

For that matter they worked fine on elk but for some reason I switched to 165's for elk.

Killed with both and saw no difference.

As long as the bullet goes in & comes out, what difference does it make how much it weighed?

I've always found 157.5 grain bullets far superior to 150's or 165's in the .308, but apparently none of the factories can be bothered to make them anymore during this stupid component "shortage."

You can always hacksaw a little off of the 165's

I've used 165s. Only because one of the first loads I tried in my Rem 788 shot into less than half an inch; 165 SGK over Varget.

It depends on what your rifle shoots the best. I shoot a 150 Partition in a Fwt 308 with 47 gr of 4320. I like my guns to shoot tight groups and know what the bullet is going to do out in the distance. If my gun shot 165's then that is what I would shoot.
