The base on my Remington 141 is a Redfield. The number of the base must be under it because it doesn't show. The Redfield base I have on my Rem 141 came on the rifle. I can pull it off to check for a model number, but I would like to wait until after Deer season.
I was told in another thread that the correct model of the Redfield base is JR-14 and the factory part number is: # 511102. I can't be positive about the numbers because I haven't been able to find one.

Thanks

Don't believe that Leupold makes a one piece base for the 14 & 141....standard bases are Rear 20A and Front 27.

I don't think anyone currently makes a single piece base for the Remington 14/141. I've been looking for one for my Remington 14 off and on for a couple of years and haven't seen one yet.

The 2 piece base recommended by Weaver has to have the front base mounted on the barrel over the chamber. That is not something I have been willing to do, but I have seen it done and it doesn't look bad. I have seen 2 piece Weaver bases with both mounted on the receiver, but don't have a clue what the base numbers are. I would go with them if I could find out the numbers.

Believe that the Weaver bases are the same part #'s as the Leupold bases....don't know if they mount on the receiver.

Yep, I'm sure bone is what made that hole, had to toss the shoulder. But the load was a 200grn Sierra r.n. overtop 36.5 grain IMR3031 in Remington brass and lit by a Winchester primer. Looking back in my notes it averaged just under 1 1/4" 3 shot groups at 100 but I guess I didn't chrono it.

Ah ok. Looking at the pics looked as if it may be a Leupold. I will search for a redfield base. I don't really care for that staggered height of the weaver bases. Can't believe there's not more options for that gun. Thanks for all the info

It's interesting that Hodgdon's loads with LVR powder are listed with about 100 fps more velocity than the next fastest with other powders, at about the same pressures. That's quite a trick. Do you guys with chronographs verify that LVR powder really is that much faaster? Or are they testing LVR in a longer barrel than the others to accentuate the difference? Not sure I'm ready to swallow that whole LVR thing hook, line, and sinker.

I have a notion to try some 748 ball powder in my 35. Seems like it takes up less space for a given charge weight than most stick powders, and the 35 case sure enough doesn't have any "extra" room.

Big Redhead,

Since JB hasn't answered you on this yet, I will share his recent findings on the subject.

The Hornady manual also gives about the same advantage to LEVERevolution powder as you saw in the Hodgdon data. They got 2100 fps with the 200 gr, bullet using 42.7 grs. in a 20" Marlin 336.

JB's current article in RIFLE magazine shows the same superior results with the new powder. John got 2,102 fps with 45 grs. of LEVERolution in his Remington Model-8 with its 22" barrel. Factory loads produced 1,943 fps in his rifle.

If JB says it is so, I think you can bank on it.

I haven't tried this new powder yet in my 35 Rem. Model 141, but I plan to when I get around to playing with it again. In the past I have had very good results with Varget in this cartridge.
I hope you get good results.

I'm not doubting JB. Hodgdon lists 2235 fps with a 200gr Hornady RN and 45gr of LVR at 32,200 CUP. The next closest thing is 2139 fps with 39.5gr of Varget at 33,300 CUP. That's quite a trick. "Area under the curve" I suppose.
