Ruger MkII All Weather 7mm-08

Don't get me wrong, I have a few of these and like them, but I'd sooner find a donor and re-barrel it than pay $2225 for one no matter it's rarity.

To each their own.

That looks like what they sold new for about $500-600 at Dicks in the 90s. To me it's just meat rifle with cast action and plastic stock. Lot of wealthy cattlemen and starlets in that state......few grand is pocket change to them. I would think American Baron or Junker would want something on par with Dakota 76.

yea, but if you clik on 'bid history' there are five bidders. one guy with a bunch of bids, but he's not high bidder.

my guess, high bidder has a very high max bid, and the other guy was bidding him up or trying to find his max bid.

lucky seller, though. there's a few days to go too...

Seller is from here on the fire, won't name names and don't know what's up with the deal but I sold it to him this past spring and had the opportunity to buy it back a week ago for a little less than he bought it from me for.

I sold a different boat paddle .260 on GB that was a legit deal for 1450.00 at the same time.

it looks like two guys both want it bad. ChewyCowboy's bid was before all of Steven Millers bids. CC must have put up a huge max bid and Steven Miller worked up slowly to the current bid.

and to think CC's bid was just after noon, so he shouldn't have been too drunk yet. he has an A+ rating with 20 transactions.

but it's funny to watch all of the M70 boys get twisted about a Ruger All Weather getting this money.

Geez... I coulda bought a bunch of these things when they came out. Thought they were the ugliest Rugers ever made. Still do. Guess my feelers for what will appreciate in value are all crossed up.

I bought the first two boat paddle Rugers I could get my hands on. a 77/.22 and a .308. still have the .22 along with two .338s, and a .223 AI. the .308 got traded a few years ago.

I really like the Boat Paddles as well. Currently have a 77/22, 223, and a 338-06, as well as a short action stock bought from the classifieds waiting for a barreled action.

It better include a boat for that kind of coin. But they'd rather sell $300 rifles.

Whats the deal with them? 1/8 inch groups at 500 yards or something?

Find a SA with sights in that stock....see what it goes for.

I'm a Ruger fan and hated that stock. Any of you guys have one of the first ones with the green inserts?

In regards to the American comments...

We sell a bunch of rifles and the American is the hands down winner in sales. It's crazy, but no other bolt platform comes close. The Americans sell 10 to 1 over any other bolt model. Doesn't matter if it's a 700, Hawkeye, 70, Tikka or Savage Axis.

Inexpensive black rifles are the only thing that tops American sales. We sold 125 DPMS Oracles last week.

Would you say price is the overriding factor? For the money a new shooter could get into a rig without pissing off momma too bad. On the other hand, it seems fellas just wanting another tool in the box are jumping on them pretty hard. And it's proven they shoot.

Win/Win

Just curious as to the "why". Not trying to piss up a rope on this vs. that...

Price has a lot to do with it, as do accuracy reports. We sell blued models for $331 and stainless for $386. The predators are $350ish. I also think the Ruger name has something to do with it.

I also see "rifle" guys buying them too, not just the economy shoppers. I really can't explain it. We ran out of 223's last Saturday and I got 10 more in. We're out again until Tuesday.

I've always liked boatpaddles. I've even suggested that a savvy stock maker should pick up the idea/pattern, but these two auctions shocked me! I had no idea!

Someone's trying to corner the market.

I don't ever recall Ruger having any complete "dogs", but have only had a handful. Never had one that wouldn't shoot.

I'd say first mover advantage to Tikka, second mover to Ruger. Kinda surprised Remington couldn't pull it off. I think Winchester has something on the horizon.

I thought you mentioned something about a 6.8 SPC RAR at one time. That cartridge in the Ranch model would get my attention. And for no other reason than because "its there".

That's how I'd roll. But since this same guy paid $4k for a 7mm-08 Ultralight, I'm guessing he's trying to collect all of them. More power to him. Like I said in my original post, I have a few of these and like them, but 308s etc are easy to come by and re-barrel is way less expensive for something I'm just going to shoot and hunt.

Ain't nothing says it didn't go through either.

I don't really care one way or the other. I'd not pay anywhere near that. Heck, the last one I bought went OTD with a scope for $410 and that was a couple weeks ago. Since PrarieGoat here is the seller in this auction, maybe he'll let us know how he makes out with the buyer, if he's inclined. I'd be curious to know how this pans out (not that it's any of my business.)

My guess the potential buyer is trying to find the last pieces for a collection. Met a guy 15 years ago that had, at that time, every M77 configuration and caliber they had produced. If this is legit, I'd almost bet is something similar.

Come on toad you can not compare a Bee with that thing.

It is like comparing Kate Upton to the wife of a Russian beet farmer!!

Sure I do collect Bee memorabilia. Thanks

LOL laugh

On a serious note why the crazy price? Is it the stock or what? Certainly for the money you can build all sorts of great stuff.

PM me your addy and i'll drop the belt buckle in the mail.

I'd guess the price stems from being rare variation of a rifle that is desired for it's legendary durability. the Ruger All Weather 77 MKIIs have somewhat of a cult following. the skeleton stocked Rugers do command a premium over the current version.

i passed up a Ruger All Weather in .350 RM a few years ago and still regret it. but not $3K regret.

Interesting how the "Fire" set ablaze the page views compared to the closed auction. Gotta make the unsuspecting bidders jittery.

The irony..., all +1100, (excluding powder_river_rat!!!), think they're NUTS!

"Cheweycowboy" brings to mind: "Brokeback Mountain".

I don't understand, but I don't think it's any more nuts than dumping that much into a pristine P64 that'll never see the field.

I don't see how it could make bidders 'jittery'. you bid what you want and you are out when the item goes past your max bid.

and it isn't a .270, so it could be much more "Brokeback"

Thanks toad!

jimy - You should put that 264 on Gunbroker and see what you get! My understanding is there weren't a lot of those made. I had a chance to buy one about 7 years ago for $500. Wish I would've grabbed it.

jimy - The 264 I saw was from that same run of 1000. Nice rifles, I don't blame you for keeping it!

I don't know when you grew up but from 1999 till now I've never seen another.
But if they keep bringing money like this auction, you can bet they will be copied.

The short actions are or were for the most part bringing 700-800 depending on the caliber. Long actions for the most part are 400-600 ish.

BUT... we need to let this thread die because it's making me sick. I knew I was leaving a little money on the table when I sold this rifle to goat, but this auctions was ridiculous.

When I bought this same 7mm-08 I also bought a one of a kind boat paddle .260 that I sold on GB for 1450.00 and I thought that was nuts. It had factory sights, a little different profile barrel and was confirmed it was a show special gun.

I'd imagine you boys are going to be looking a little closer at the BPR's at the gun shows from now on..

Me, I'm still kicking myself for not getting a .223 a few years ago for $350..

The deal went through fine.

You fellas with some of the rarer Boat Paddles might think about listing them if you could use some moola, looks like the market is hot right now.

Hmm...

What is "rare"?

The stupid thing is, 5 years ago these things were EVERYWHERE on used gun racks.
