Have been off the mp fire for 5 or 6 months, have tried repeatedly to get back on for the past month, but it is impossible to navigate, browse, or post. MyiPad is sluggish, keeps tripping out and the error message "a problem occurred with this website so it was reloaded" or something like that keeps popping up, and the browser reloads to the home page. Absolutely no similar problems on any other site. Is my iPad corrupted in regards to dealing with the Campfire, or does the Campfire have issues that others are experiencing?

Go into settings and start turning off anything you THINK You dont use, and anything you KNOW You don't use.

Turn off bluetooth and airplane mode, if not used.

Find the advertising and popup button and turn it on/off in whatever direction it needs to be to do its job correctly.

I have done all this. Mine still freezes, hangs up (i then clear my history) bounces me out, gives me the cannot connect blank white screen and such.

My application app starts up without fail, the longer I'm on the site. Its a pain, but i cope.

Explore all buttons and paths in settings. It takes awhile.

These are the burdens we live with to be at the Fire, gents.

Hope things loosen up for you.

Word, Bra.

I have been on the fire much less lately because of this situation.
I named my iPad Satan and look forward to sending it to the abomination of desolation.

Rick,
Only you and a decent OS 8.2.1.44 update from Apple can save my tablet......
Godspeed.

As I stated in my original post, NONE of these things happen on any other site! Shall I name a few? Probably against forum rules. Anyway, it makes visiting the Campfire a frustrating experience that seldom lasts longer than 10 minutes before I give up and go to a competing site, where the experience is much more satisfying. Just typing out this message took twice as long as it should have...

I am on my IPad now trying to re-create it, and I can't.

Let's try something:

Settings>Safari>Clear History, then Clear Cookies and Data

Then, turn Do Not Track and Fraudulent Website Warning ON

Also, turn ON Block Pop Ups

This is the configuration i have now, with clean cookies, and I am running fine.

Please let me know if that helps. I'll keep, working on it.

Thats the way mine is set up, Rick, but I still experience the same problems I stated above.

I assume the OP, after doing what you suggested, will run better than he has been. I did, once I started flippin switches in Settings, especially turning off bluetooth, and blocking popups.

It wont be problem free, but it will do much better

Rick,
I tried your settings, noted a slight improvement, but still slow to load, and everything I touch on the pad seems to experience a lag, or the error message comes on and everything reloads. I tried the Campfire site on my laptop, works fine, I'm typing this message on it now. Just finished browsing Classifieds, flawless on the PC, still a mess on the iPad. It's definitely not my internet connection, as the PC works fine and my iPad shows a download speed of 21.17Mbps and an upload speed of 11.36Mbps, according to Ookla. Something about the Campfire site mechanics and my iPad....

BB and Vinny,

Quickly double click the power button on the front of the pad and check whats running BEHIND. the scenes on your pad.

Once you open something, it stays open until you close it completely. Even if your not using it any longer.

If something is open, and youre no longer using it, swipe it upward so it completely closes and disappears. There may be a ton of stuff out there you no longer want running. You will have to do this all the time.

Then clear your safari out, and maybe even do a soft shutdown (holding the shutdown button at top and bottom simultaneously until it shuts down) , and start back up again.

See if those help.

Will

I did as per instructed (maybe) and then I couldn't log onto the fire.
I still didn't hate the messengers, because it's Christmas and I love everybody (except Satan the deceiver and Satan the iPad).
Then I switched on allow cookies for here.
As is apparent I can now log on.

I will see how it goes,
Love
Vinny

P.S. I double clicked my power button and my blow up doll screamed in ecstasy....
Merry Christmas to me.
Honestly, when I double clicked Satan it just went to a black screen.......
What does that mean?
Peace

Ok Monsignor,

This is gonna get tricky and confusing because we may not have the same version of the IPad, and also as fast as Apple changes and fuggs things up, we may not be running the latest update. I been burned by Apple a couple times with their update so I know Im not running the current 8 POS whatever.

Now,

Double clicking the power button at top shouldve took you to a screen where all the open apps shrink away and show up as smaller, floating screens, showing you whats open.
The screen may be black because
1)you have no wallpaper photo up, that shows all the time, but i dont know why you couldn't see any applications running,
2) unless you had nothing open and running. Try it while you are on and using the fire.

under Safari,

If you turned your cookies switch to NEVER, thats why you couldn't see the fire. You turned it back on, all good. It runs on cookies, whatever they are.

Do not track-turn to ON

Fraudulent website-turn to ON

Did any of Ricks suggestions or mine help? Like I said be ause things change and get shuffled so fast, its hard to instruct between two people, because as Op system update, they shuffle where and what things are. Things get dumped, combined, etc

Well keep at it, as much as I can help. Im pretty unsavy tho.

IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY, TURN OFF THE BLUETOOTH BUTTON. I found it conflicts with the load speed trying to run both the op and bt.. My tooth Button appears on its own near the very top of selections on the left side menu.

Go into your privacy button, and turn ON "limit ad tracking" under the advertising button.. That should stop some of the ads following your usage habits. It may help also with the fire. Not sure.

That sounds like what i call "the white screen of death"

All white, has grey writing for a message.

I get it all the friggin time., in about a half dozen different messages. I just hit the "back arrow" until the Fire fires up again. Some days are better than others.

Yes, the page hangs up constantly. Updating, etc etc does not fix it. Im pretty patient, mind of the hunter and all, but when it wont load. I quit, go on to other things, and come back in a few.

I dont twitter, i dont facebook, i dont podcast, iCloud is default loaded so I flipped all the switches under the icloud button to OFF; so none of those things are loaded on mine as applications.

Sounds like youre starting to run like everyone elses.

NOW DO THIS: hard shut down.

you have to occasionally do a HARD shut down, to let the pad think, rest, and do whatever it does to keep running. I don't know what it does.
Hold the slim button located on the bottom or top on the opposite end of the speaker end. Hold it down until you get a slide prompt asking you to shut down completely.

Do that and let it sit for a bit. Then hit that button again and fire the pad back up. Sometimes things get better. You gotta let it rest every couple days depending on usage.

I loaded and use chrome for this site only on my iPad. No problems now.

There's something in the code on the site that's incompatible with Safari.

I loaded chrome and find it to be meh.

I got different problems when using chrome. The key board wont stay available, and i ahve to stop it working to type.

But by loading chrome, safari has been sped up and i have less problems.

Its a crap shoot, cluster fugg if you ask me.

I have all of the same problems on my ipad. In addition, when I'm on my desktop machine, there's constant data going back and forth, even once a page seems fully loaded. I'm guessing it's something to do with the way the adds are displayed? It started doing this several months ago.

The site is basically unusable on my Ipad. Constant reloads, sometimes never completing a page. I've been through all the cleanups on my end that I'm aware of to no avail.

The only difference to my equipment is that Adblocker was rejected by Apple during the last version update. That's the message I get anyhow.....

I have downloaded Google onto my Ipad. I open up 24 HC in Google, and the problems have gone away. On my desktop, I run AdBlocker Plus, no ads, no problems.

I give up. After repeated tries to get this thing to work on my iPad, all I get is :
- the same lack of performance, seize ups, etc.
- irrelevant suggestions from onlookers (not web administrators -where are you?) about all sorts of fixes to my iPad when the relevant fact is MY IPAD WORKS GREAT ON EVERY OTHER SIMILAR SITE EXCEPT 24 HOUR CAMPFIRE! Get it?
- other irrelevant thread hijacking. Why don't you go somewhere else with your verbal masturbation, if you wouldn't clutter a legitimate request for help from the webmaster maybe he could cut through your clutter and provide some real assistance.
Enough of this b.s.

Perhaps Bwanas ordinary pad couldn't handle his flow that day. Poor soul, he was just too high strung is all....

We all have problems with the iPad, and only specifically on this site. But we persevere.

But the recent suggestion by Bighorn to run it thru Google has helped a bit. I sign on thru there and it seems to cut the lock up hesitation, and bouncing out and such.

No other suggestions unfortunately. Shhhhh dont tell anybody thats not interested in crowd sourcing a problem to solve it.

Were not here to talk to each other and share knowledge.

I know less than little about these gadgets but I had my brother download that $5 adblock app for my Iphone that people recommended...
I had every bit of the problems you guys are experiencing, prolly worse..
It cleared up everything and now I can roll this site with no problems.

If it wasn't for the wealth of helpful and interesting crap and people on this site, I would have abandoned it within a month of signing on. Rick B apparently knows that is the case. The revenue of the over the top advertizing and pop up stuff is worth the complaining we do, because not many of us are willing to actually cut ties and leave.

I'm relatively new here, but I believe that is basically the situation in a nutshell, big bwana. The info here is worth the hassle....right up until the day that it is not.

Guys:

Right now, unless 8.1.3 is much better, the Mercury browser is the workaround. This is a widespread problem, and Apple is aware of it. I was advised to use Mercury instead of Safari by an Apple rep. Also, my iPad 2 was replaced by Apple due to the i0S 8 "upgrade."

This will get you going cleanly with Mercury in 30 seconds:

Click this link:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mercury-web-browser.../id331012646?mt...

Click the icon with the cloud and arrow, and it will download.

Open.

Top right hand corner, click the three-line icon.

Click Settings.

Click "Popup Options," select "Block All Popups" and click "Settings" again

Scroll down and click "Extensions"

Turn on AdBlock.

Click "Settings."

Click "Done."

Got to Campfire and log on.

Goodbye Safari.

Please let me know if that helps.

Thanks Rick! I've been plagued with the same problems on my iPad mini. I wasn't even able to post using my iPad. I'd get a post partially typed up and then the dreaded error message appears informing me that the page had to be reloaded and my post is erased. Painful to say the least. The GOOD NEWS is that I am posting this message from my iPad using MERCURY browser configured as instructed by Rick above and so far so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just FYI: iPad running OS 10.1.3

Also, be sure to make sure that the Adblock extension is turned on in Mercury's settings. It is not automatically on by default.
