Anybody running the 100 Ballistic Tip in 25-06 for songdogs? I worked up a load this weekend that shoots just over 1/2" with these. Wont be a full time yote rifle it is going to be carried by a buddy of mine in 2 weeks on a coyote tournament we are hunting in. Just wondering if it is a bit tough and I should try to get a load together with the 85 Ballistic tip instead. Let me know how it is working for you that are running it.

Popped a yote with one last year, 25-06, was under 100 yard shot. Broadside, double lung shot, drt. Little hole in and out. Didnt skin it, so dont know about the internal damage. Left her laying for about an hour before I picked her up, not a lot of blood on the ground either.

Same load the day before, completely ruined the offside shoulder of a 187 pound sow.

Nothing but ribs on the yote and both shoulders on the piggie.

10GAUGE: Don't know what your speed is, but out of my RUGER77 w/IMR 4831@ 3280FPS, it crushes poodles and has taken deer to 150-165 lbs. easily. Devastating on everything it hit. The 85grBT is ok if just for dogs, but might be too light for anything bigger. BTW my 85 BTs are the early, light constructed version.
WILL.

The 100's will work fine...I've been known to use my 257 WBY and 115 Btips for tournaments. The only down side to the 257 is that it has cost me "big dog" a time or two when it leaves a couple pounds of coyote spread out across the field......

You hunting Bethany?

No down around Pleasant Hill. Heard there was one at Concordia this past weekend.

Gotcha, how many dogs does it typically take to win down that way?

Not sure this is my first time in. I saw 4 dogs and a fox saturday morning and got 1 of the yotes killed. Starting to pair up.

Remington 700 25-06 100gr NBT running shot -70-80 yards Owyhee desert SW Idaho .
Coyote was shot through other shoulder -crazy exit wound on that shot.

Knocked the crap out of this little female below ,she's pretty side up for her photo op.
100gr NBT will do fine , but if you want to flat out SMACK coyotes DRT -nothing beats the 75gr VMax . Way cheaper too.
58.5gr. H4350 win. brass =3700+ fps makes a beautiful THumpp when it catches up to a coyote.

Have shot 75 g. Vmax, 85 gr. BTBT and 100 gr. BTBT in my .25-06's.. All work well.. I also shot quite a few whitetails with the 85, but they were small east coast deer.. All work.. If wind is not a sever problem, as ol mike says, the 75's are deadly..

The 75 VMax is short -I read an internet secret -seat the bullet .257" into the case -I went .250" -it shot ragged holes with that load.
The load is straight out of the Lee second edition manual.

I shot a small 20lb. coyote square on the brisket bone facing me at around 70-90 yards with the 75vmax , I kind of examined the coyotes ribs -spinal column and such the bullet broke nearly every bone in its body from the neck back.
I picked it up and it just kind of sloshed -blood ran out of about 20 stab wounds.

The 100 gr BT, IMR 4831, and the .25-06 go together like peanut butter and jelly. I have been loading that in my 25-06's for the last 30 years. No idea how many deer and coyotes over that time have been taken with that combo

Wouldn't be a full time yote rifle just a back up or loaner for a 3 day tourney every year so thinking the 100 will fit the bill just fine.

I think the 25-06 is way to little to kill a coyote. You need a 375 at least. (Sarcasm off)

My 22 K hornet has been planting coyotes for years.

Not worried about caliber choice, typically use 22-250 or my 6mm. Was asking mainly about bullet choice, didn't want a bullet that wouldn't expand much on smaller critters and skip all over the country.

Was just having fun with you. I have a 25-06 but never used it on coyotes. I have always used my hornets and 40 grand garment bullets.

Haven't shot my 2506 in years, but the 100gr BT was the do-all bullet in it. Last coyote I shot with it was about 200 yds out and I hit a bit high. Punched about a 3 inch wide trough through the top of her shoulders. Yeah, they'll work....

I'm a little new to running a 25-06 but not a .257 roberts.

I know in the roberts, any fast soft point short of the heavy 115-120 grain bullets will DESTROY a coyote.... Gaping holes, limbs getting blown off.

Generally that is what I go for when it comes to song dogs.... But have been changing my mind as of late wink
