Wondering if a case full of re26 in the 300 win mag might be awesome....might tread on the heals of a wby.
W/the smaller denser kernal capacity w/180 bullets might be in the 83-87 grain area?

Hmmm...RL-26 and 150 gr NP's at 3k in a .270 Wiinchester. How long a barrel is being used for your data SU-35?

BACK TO SQUARE ONE ON THIS ONE!

I asked Alliant Powder this question in regards to RL 26 compared to RL 25, as I wanted to start testing powder in my 7mm Wby.

Quote
In your load guide for the 7mm Wby and 175 grain bullet. Why are you loading RL 26 at 70.5 grains and RL 25 at 74.0 Grains? Seems you could load more grains of RL26 being it is a slower powder.

Bob,
I was recently informed that the burn rate of 26 actually falls out between Reloder22 and Reloder 33, not Reloder 25 and Reloder 33.
This would mean that 26 is faster than 25 thus the difference in load data.
Also, burn rates are not the whole equation when it comes to load data.
The load data that is on our website is tested load data and meets all the industry standards.
Thanks,

Seems by the latest report, they, Alliant, has changed their minds.

I don't think they really know yet.

I'm going to hold off buying more till I know more about these powders.

I really wonder about alliant sometimes.....I think they still have in their advertising (and on the container label) that mr4000 is a spherical powder.....shazam....open a can and its a short cut kernal.

Any more testing done on the 150gr/RL26 combo? Hitting 3000 with it is sweet. I've got a new 270 and a pile of 150gr Fusions I'm thinking of putting some RL26 under.

Anybody know where a guy can get a hold of some RL-23 or 26? Their load data looks promising for 7mm wsm.
Thanks,
bludog

I bought some of both at Whittaker Guns outside of Owensboro, Kentucky a couple of weeks ago, but don't know if they still have any.

Whiptail, I've found RL 17 to be very temperature stable, at least in my application!! I do all of my load development on 90 degree F plus days, and did testing of rounds at -4 F (allowed rifle and ammo to reach ambient before test). According to my chrno(and my surprise), I actually gained 8fps at -4! memtb

From what I have seen these new powders don't offer much more in performance compared to RL 17, I am getting 2980 in my 270 wsm with the 150 partition using 57 gr of Rl 17, it takes about ten more grains of RL 26 to gain another hundred fps. My load shoots groups under 3/4 inch, I talked to a tech at Alliant a few minutes ago and he said that the main advantage with RL 23 and 26 is the reduction in copper fouling

Interesting, I have a couple pounds each of 23 and 26, will have to give them a whirl.

I've been pleased with the Speed & accuracy of the 270 with R22 under 130's.

If you can push 150's up to 3100 that's even better. smile

You skipped powders in your testing...

Try some '23.

I've shot up about 3# a piece of 23 and 26.

22 is done for me. I'll take 23.

I've got data for the 270wsm, 7wsm, 300wsm, and 300 Dakota.

Some speeds with my guns:

7wsm 26/150 LRAB = 3,200
270wsm 23/130NAB = 3,350
300Dakota 26/150tsx = 3,600
7wsm 23/120tsx = 3,450

All of these speeds were measured at 50 degrees F and showed NO pressure in my guns.

Based on Alliants data it would take about five grains more to get another 30 or 40 fps. Also based on their data a 270 win is only 66 fps behind the 270 wsm, the wsm should be out running the standard 270 by a wide margin, when using RL 17 the difference in speed in much greater.

Given what SU35 reported I'm really wanting to put RL26 under some 150s in my 270, but I haven't seen it in these parts yet. Ugg.
