I'm no real fan of them either. I'd just say that any gun with plastic is 180 degrees from a No.1 with good wood, and chambered for a classy cartridge.

My rifle [DWM Mauser] loves the 140 NPT's and 48 gr RL-22, bumping an easy 2800 fps and drills the hell outta critters.

If I can, yes. You can't always however. Some of them have pretty conventional throats, and some are really long. The .30-40 is really long, probably because some of the old factory loads had 220gr bullets. My .270 #1 has a conventional throat, and is superbly accurate.

These are .475 Turnbulls. That's a 500gr Woodleigh on the right, and it's not close to the Ruger's lands. They're still extremely accurate.
