I have a 18.5" barreled model seven. It wears a 3-9X40 VX2. To me, the rig balances nicely.

I had a vx-3 3.5-10x40 on my 308 model seven and I thought it was a great combination.

On my SS 7mm-08, I started with a 1.5-5X20 Vari-X111 matte, went to a 3-9X40 Vari-X11 gloss, and settled on a 2.5-8X36 Vari-X111 silver. Although the silver color is not usually a primary choice for me, it looks great and besides I had to find some way to use the stainless rings that appeared from somewhere. The 2.5-8X36 Leupold is the perfect fit for that compact rifle whether matte or silver finish.

I also hunt PA with a Model 7 in .308. It's my favorite! For 30 years, it wore a Leupold 2-7x33mm. I liked the 2x end for bear drives. But, I switched to a 3x9x33mm last year as the extra magnification can make a difference with antler restrictions. While the Compact scopes (now called Ultralight) have just the right proportions for good looks on the Model 7, I have another Model 7 in .223 with a Leupold 3-9x40 and I don't find that scope too large.

My old go to is a 18.5" barreled .260 wearing an old Simmons Aetec 44mm I think, works fine in the WV hills.
I'm getting ready to outfit 2 more
One with a Minox ZV3 3-9x50 (thanks Camera Land)
One with a Ziess Terra 3-9X42
The 50 might seem a bit large but weight difference is negligible.

Field of view is what i miss when I go with compact light weight scopes.

Model 7 358 Win with Leupold 1 piece Dual-Dovetail base, low silver rings and a Leupold Silver 2.5-8x36.

Model 7 KS 35 Rem with same base as above, low rings and a Leupold M-8 4X Matte finish.

Both scopes look at home on the Model 7.

I have a Leupold Vari-X III in 3.5-10x40 on my Model Seven (in 7mm-08). I used to have it on a 700 in 7mm Magnum. I like it on the Model Seven. Initially I figured it would be temporary, thought that it would be too big, but it's just right for me.
