These are on sale from Cabela's for $60. Cabela's number is 322671. I'm thinking of getting one for my wife. It's only use will be for fishing for salmon on the Kenai in Alaska. Salmon will be reds or sockeye. Is this enough reel?

She used my buddy's fly rod last year and we came back with 100 lbs of fillets. So she know what to do.

I know nothing about fly fishing.

This might be too late to be useful, but ... I have an 1850, which is spooled with WF6F that I use for trout, on a pretty stiff 9' 6wt rod -- but not usually for Kenai rainbow. I deem it just on the cusp for that use, especially in late summer - fall. For Kenai rainbow, sockeye, and silvers I use a 1880 spooled with WF8F, on a 9' 8wt rod. Especially if combat fishing for reds on the Kenai or Russian, the 8wt setup is much more popular -- and useful -- than a 6wt rig.

I'd be inclined for something with about 200 yds of backing capacity. Probably good though if one does not expect to hook to a hot fish of accidently snag one by the tail
