Understand that there is another thread going with regard to alpha spotters, but didn't want to hijack.

Meopta spotters seem to be getting some good reviews across the 'net. That said, what is/are the major differences between the Meopta S2 HD and the Meopro HD? Is there ~$800 worth of difference?

I own the S2 but being it's brand new I have never seen the Meopro HD. Meopta USA CS is stellar. I'd give them a call and visit with them about it. They'll shoot you straight. I believe there's a guy named Shawn there that's very helpful.

Both the eye doctor and oculist show us different lens to look with and ask us: "What's better, A or B?"

Go to some retailers and look through what they have.

It seems that your looking at the 80mm spotters which are big and heavy and this is ok?

Does the Meopta S2 HD really cost $2,199.95!

I was using a Leu 60 mm variable spotter and not able to see small holes at 200 yds all the time.

I got a Konus 80mm for a good price and it's outstanding. Sure it's heavy but it's resolution is superior to the 60mm's. It cost only a couple of hundred dollars also not that I don't have Hensoldt, Leupold, Zeiss and Swarovski optics.

The Konus is so good that you can donate the money you save to the NRA!

Easier said than done in some cases. Trying to find a local retailer that handles Meopta is the challenge. Eagle Optics is about an hour and a half away. Gonna call them later and see if they have both available to look thru.

Our local Cabelas has about (4) Meopta S2's in the bargain cave for $1605, and they would probably knock another 10% off of that price. And they are in super shape. I picked up a Cabelas Euro HD (Meopta S2) just after the new year for an awesome price- esp. considering they were having a clearance on everything in the bargain cave sale of another 20% off. Needless to say- I was stoked.

But even though it seems hard to believe ( and say)- the Meopta or Cabelas brand is IMO a deal even at $2200 when put up against the Swaro 80HD. And if someone tries hard enough, there are deals to be had on these Meopta's and Cabelas versions.

That's bush league compared to what the OP is interested in.

An eyepiece for a good spotter can hardly be had for $229.

In your case:

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

That would involve probably a lot of testing in different situations to find a difference. Eagle optics will sell you both and will gladly take one back and let you wring them out .

There was no debate, no slander, just simple statement of fact.

It's funny how you run down various types of rifles because to you they aren't "fine machinery," but here when the OP is interested in truly fine optics you're talking up low rent stuff.

Take your 299 dollar spotter and use it to spot a herd of ELk 2 miles away and then use the Swaro Spotter,Meopta,Zeiss or Leica and get back to me.

This is GREAT advice.........The S2 takes a back seat to nobody, at any price.

The other question that begs answering is this; Were these actual Meopta (branded) S2s with eyepieces, or the Cabela's Instinct version (fixed eye-piece)?

I don't know what his deal is and apparently neither does he.

In reference to 'fixed', I was inferring permanently affixed to the spotter body (as with the Cabela's Instinct) not a fixed power eyepiece. My bad for not being specific.
