Think you nailed it. Both the pic and the bird. We took some shots down to a local birding conference once and had about a party of 10 arguing as to whether we had a house or purple finch. That one looks housey to me.

Nice shot! I actually studied Ornithology years ago, and it is definitely a House Finch.
