Thinking of getting a new upper so chambered.

I realize that 2200 fps with 250s out of a 20" is the "expected" velocity.

There are several BDC reticles available that should match this nearly perfectly out to 300 yds. I'm not normally a BDC guy, and spin turrets, but for deer hunting out to 300 yds, I may make an exception.

I'm pretty certain I could achieve 2500 fps with handloads and the right upper. But it would "screw up" the BDC reticle I have in mind (but not render it useless).

I would like to hear from those who shoot a 450BM to 200 yds and beyond. And am especially interested in handloads that surpass the 2200 fps mark.

Thanks....

I will check that out.

Truth is, I have a hankerin' to try a Redfield Revenge with accuplex designed for sabots. It is geared towards a .45 bullet, 250 gr., @ 2200 fps. 450 BM numbers prezactly. I know some have used Nikon slughunter scopes as well. And figure the Leupold muzzleloader scope would work as well. But the Redfield also ranges to 600 yds.

Such BDC scopes are normally not my cup of tea, but feel like trying something different for a change.

The 450 would be great on hogs/black bear as well IMO. It sounds like a lot of fun. But deer to 300 yds is my first priority...

I'd get a Grendel or Dtech super-short-something for your purposes.

The .458 Socom would be a little more interesting, as it uses .458 dia bullets, not .452 like the bushy. Lots of .45-70 bullets will work well in the Socom.

X2 for the SOCOM. Go to www.tromix.com. Tony has some in stock most of the time.

I like the 450 over the socom. There are a lot of really good bullets that are designed for the velosity window of the 450 bushmaster not to mention that you can size 458 bullets down to 452 fairly easy. Most of the 458 cal bullets are too long and hard for the socom. I just wish there was an aftermarket barrel available. I have been unsuccessful in finding one and MGI military hasn’t had any in forever.
