Wow, That's quite an animal!
The ones here in the Northeast are not as big but both seem slow moving beasts.
When in Scouts back in the 50's we were camping in Vermont and porkupines were common. A faun stuck her nose and mouth into one.
We came across the poor little thing and chased it and caught it. We could run back then. It's mother was hiding back bleating to it.
We pulled the quills out and put some water or milk down for it. It drank some of it and then would not leave us!
That night we put it in an empty pup tent but in the morning it was gone.
We shot the porkys with the 06's we had, .22's. I had a 357 Python, my buddy had a 44 Blackhawk. The Ruger was the better gun in every way.
