I had an idea to try on a predator calling trip to texas. Just in case I got any fur I wanted to keep, I didn't want to blow it up so I loaded a 60 gr. NBT going slow at 2650 with 24 gr of 4064. The combination worked like a charm. Killed a dozen fox and half that many coons with virtually no damage...dime sized holes at worst.

Example...these guys came in on one stand.

Nice, foxes are cool. I wish there were more around and less coyotes.

Thanks for posting.

I'll have to try that bullet/velocity combo for fur hunting.

15 grains of SR 4759 and 18.5 grains of 4198 will get you that velocity with 55 and 60 grain bullets...just as a powder alternative...

Seafire, with 4759 do you use any filler?? also can cases used with that load be used with full power loads later on??

Fox are beautiful animals. Must be an amazing density of fox and coyotes there.

I have yet to try it but are 223 subsonic loads accurate to say 150yrs?

I use a suppressor and have always thought that it would be good to use a subsonic rounds for that first shot inside of 150 yds.

Recipes?

Try the 40 Vmax at about those speeds pard. Likely will only get a few exits but bullet will still be very destructive that slow.

Any less destructive bullet/rifle combo better than what you did there is very hard to do consistently as these grays are about 4-6 inches wide.

And at night, having runners is not too fun as you'll lose a few -

We only lost one and that wasn't the bullets fault..... whistle

Scroll back on this thread for other pics...we had a ball and the load really did work a lot better than expected....we even had one or two with no visible exits, which really surprised me.

no its pretty bulky and also its reduced velocity but not reduced pressure...I do alot of volume varmint shooting ( sage rats) with a 17.5 grain charge using 40 to 55 grain bullets.. went thru a couple of 1000 Nosler 40 grain Tipped Varmaggeddons last spring..

and of course the cases can be used with what you'd consider 'full power' loads later on...with NO issues..

for the record, I don't use any filler on the cases I use faster powder with.... my two most common, I find are not position sensitive, even when I am loading a 223 to say 22 LR velocities..

and have never had ignition issues...even use pistol primers at times for such light loads, 22 LR or even to equivalent of a 22 Mag...
