That district's teachers routinely go on strike "for the kids!" And the union said the district was overstepping its bounds by forcing adults to cover the crack!!
Been in the red for years. Integration lawsuits dating back to the Central High Crisis necessitated busing kids all over the county to get the right mix of ethnicities in all of the schools. Wasn't unusual to see buses with one or two students all over the interstates in the mornings. In college I worked with a girl that rode a taxi from the south end of the county to the north in the morning, and back again in the evening to attend a magnet school. Of course, the cab being school provided transportation, the generous people of Arkansas paid for that too!!!! When the integration $$ faucet was shut off a couple of years ago a lot of us saw this coming.
