Any of you folks use one of the new float tubes that have the seat like a chair in them??? I have an old tube, but the ones I have been looking at have a seat like a chair in them.. Saw the in Cabela's and Sportsmans.. Prices ranged from 99 to $500.. I would like a quality tube, but no sense in wasting $ on frills. What make and model is your favorite??

I used to fish out of the old inner tube type float tubes. called them donuts of death lol

dave scaddon makes a good float tube too. I always wear a pfd now in a tube. I like force fins a bit spendy though

forgot to mention I strap mine to a pack frame and do hike ins to alpine lakes too

I've used an Outcast Fat Cat for the last few years. The sit back into it chair is nice, as is the larger supportive size, but it's still basically a tube. The larger pontoons that allow the use of oars is a huge step up IMO. You ride higher out of the water, and have the ability to row to your destination MUCH faster than you can kick. You're also safe from the threat of wind. A strong wind (made worse by a higher profile) can make for harder rowing, but it can be Game Over with a kick-only tube. BTDT.

Mostly depends on budget, size of water fished, and how much you think you'll use it, and how much garage space you've got. I've gotten by with my Fat Cat, but mostly wished I had a 'toon the whole time.

Timing is great for this thread. I have been thinking of a tube or pontoon to get away from the crowds thats on bigger waters by fishing smaller waters. I have a addiction to bluegill fishing and am curious as to which would be best for use with a fly rod. Less tangles with a tube I suppose but sit higher in a pontoon so the backcast would be higher off the water.

Not trying to hijack, just thoughit would be silly to start another thread that's almost identical.

The higher you can sit the easier it is to fly fish. And you stay drier and warmer. As stated oars make the going much faster and less work. But fins are useful once you get where you are going. I used the "Creek Sport LT" which is a good pontoon boat for the money and on sale at for $250. And pontoons are suited for up to class II moving water as well.

Have a pontoon with oars too. Water skeeter brand. Mine has an anchor system and can handle a small trolling motor. Yes, it can cover more water and I sit higher making for easier and farther casting. I still use the tube for about 70 per cent of my fishing but I hike into most lakes. The pontoon is a pain to carry long distance. I do have a wheel for it though.

I mostly troll with a clear intermediate line and indicator fish with chronies. And some casting to shore and when a hatch throw dries.

+2 on the fish cat.....easy to use and not too heavy either....I carry mine in to lakes. A good pair of fins make all the difference on getting IN & OUT of the water.....
