Fotis Steve(Dogzapper)thinks so. Said he killed quite a few w/that bullet. I wouldn't push it to 3200, 3100 maybe. It's the next best thing to a premium bullet. I think the 162 at 3000 would be better. The 139, 154, and 162 are all proven bullets in the Hornady lineup. powdr

I've killed three Roosevelt bulls with a 154 hornady bullet out of my 7STW. Headshot at 260 yards, headshot at 150 yards, behind the shoulder at 125 yards. DRT.
I bought several hundred "blems" from midway years ago, so I'm actually not sure if they're interbonds or interlocks. But, they've worked well, and are very accurate in my rifle.

slm9s,
Interlocks will have soft points. Interbonds will have red plastic points.

Sorry, I meant interbond or sst. But they were advertised as "bonded" so I'm pretty sure they're interbonds.

I believe it to be a tough bullet, but only put them into elk starting at the muzzle of 2750-2800 fps from a 7x57 Mauser. Never caught one in an elk, but did with a Mule deer. Bullet entered the brisket, went length of deer and stopped under hide of left ham.

I know they work out of a 280. I want to say I was around 2900 fps but I'd have to look in my note to be sure. I know elk didn't like it no matter how fast they were going.

A friend of mine used them for many years out of a 270 Magnum. It was a 7Mag case necked down to 270. He liked long barrels and if I remember correctly it was 26-27".
He killed an elk and mule deer buck every year that I knew him until he passed about 4 years ago.
I'd sure not be afraid to use one started at 3200 on elk.
My bad he shot the 150 Interlock 270 not the 154 7MM

This is well timed; these bullets are impossible to find but I just bumped into an estate deal where I was able to score 800. 7-08, 7x57, & 280 AI ought to all be well fed with some certified elk killers !~

I believe it to be a tough bullet, but only put them into elk starting at the muzzle of 2750-2800 fps from a 7x57 Mauser. That velocity from a 7x57 with 154 gr bullet is pretty much Brian Williams!! Ain't no safe load that will get there.

Good feedback on the 150 interlocks, I have a couple 270's to feed and these are fairly easy to find and reasonable enough in price to stockpile a bit when I do find them.

Ain't no safe load that will get there. Then Nosler is the US Gov't going along with the lie; check their load data as there are several loads in that neighborhood listed for 150s. The 7-08 has even more loads listed in that vacinity; can't imagine why a case with a little more capacity would be viewed with suspicion in this regard?

the 7x57 will do anything the 7-08 will in a modern action.
Same as the 280 vs the 270 or 308 vs 30-06

I shoot the 154 SP in my Kimber 280 AI. With H4831sc, it is the accuracy king in that rifle. My velocities are 2,800 and change though, so I'd expect that bullet to kill just about anything moving at that speed.
To me, 3200 fps is monometal territory for big game.

I use the 154 interlock in a 7 saum at about 3050 fps and they still work fine. But that is about the limit in my opinion. I shot a cow elk at 200 yds. The bullet held together, but lost a lot of weight and lots of meat damage. Dead elk- 5 steps and tipped over. Up to 2800 they would be perfect.

Wife uses them just over 2800fps. in her Browning BAR 7mmRM 20" barrel its a limited run Browning made about 10 years ago, had to cut 1 1/2" off stock to fit her. A train car load of big game animals, none have gone more than 50 yrd. she is a behind the shoulder shooter, don't like to waste a ounce of meat.
Have never recovered one.

Good luck finding 150 grain Partitions. I've been looking for them for the month or so. They are pretty scarce as well.

Either will work just fine Fotis. I just like the Hornady bullets if I'm not going to use a premium or bonded bullet. Their interlokt lineup from the 117gr 25caliber to the 139gr 7mm to the 154gr 7mm to the 162gr 7mm all are wonderful game bullets. Any of the 7mm bullets will work fine for elk...and that includes the 139gr. powdr

i think that the 154 grain hornady is tougher than the 150 grain ballistic tip that I posted up on the nosler reloading site. My hornady book also lists the 154 grain hornady for big game.

If I have a 7mm anything and it doesn't like the 154 IL it might be a bad gun! Even my little contender 730 waters shoots it well!

My 7mm bee just loves them and I do have several hundred of them I was surprised to see this thread resurrected. Have you put some into game from that 7mm 'Bee? I'd be interested to know how well they'll hang together at 3,000 - 3,200 fps. I found an accuracy load for them from my 7x57, but at < 2,400 fps, I don't usually get much expansion. I'll settle for 1-shot kills, though. FC

This thread is filled with love for that bullet. Dogzapper tells a great story of killing an Asian water buffalo with it. I did see that, toward the end, Keith mentioned sending them at 3,200 fps. Maybe you can pm him to see how they did at that speed. FC

I have always like Hornady Interlocks. I have shot them in 6mm, 308, and 7mm. I prefer Partitions for elk, but I have used the 7mm/175 Interlock on elk and it did well.

My buddy runs the 154s out of his 7mm mag at 3026fps and has had no issues. They have killed deer from 200 yards to just under 700 yards and they just knock the piss out of em. We bought 500 bonded blems from midsouth. they are pretty accurate. I ran them in my 7 mag and him in his and they grouped extremely well. I sold my 7 mag so he got the 150 or so I had left lol. Im glad I looked on here cuz I need to load his 270 and was wondering about the 150s.

Yes, the .270 Hor 150 SP is just as great as the 154 in 7 mm.

My buddy shoots the 7mm mag 154 superformance SST. I have no idea what speed they run.
A few years ago we compared bullets after we downed moose. His 154 SST mushroomed exactly like my 160 accubond running 2950 fps. Both bullets hit heavy bone too.
Those hornady's are tougher than lots of people think. I have 200 154 interlocks ready to go if I run out of accubonds and can't find any. I'm already using interlocks in 3 other calibers.

The 154 SST should be softer than the 154 IL in theory at least!
