In the past couple weeks I've been in three sporting goods stores in my part of Montana when looking for other stuff, and found pretty good supplies of rimfire ammo on their shelves, right out in the open, without crowds of people pushing and shoving to buy any. in fact two of the stores had several FEET of stack boxes of rimfire ammo, including .17 HMR, .22 Long Rifle (both hollow-point and solid), and .22 Magnum.

Now, some of the prices weren't exactly low. Hundred-round boxes of one desirable brand of Long Rifle hollow-points were $9.99, but none of the bricks of solid-point Long Rifle was over $30. .17 and .22 Magnum were $12 to $15 per 50.

I didn't need any of it, and apparently nobody else did either while I was in any of the shops. Was just wondering if this was happening elsewhere.

Not around here yet... Prices, when the stuff is even available, is +/- $40/brick of regular stuff and Eley's still about $18/box of 50..

It's really irritating..

In the past years it has been very tough to find. Then, this week became 22lr lotto.

I picked up 2 bricks of 22lr in the campfire classifieds here this week - $30 ea (shipped). Gone in about 8 minutes

1 brick of 22lr at my local ma & pa gun shop this week at $32, last box in stock.

5 bricks of 22lr at Gander Mountain yesterday for $20 ea, but they were only selling it to guys buying new 22lr rifles from them, which obviously I did.

All 8 bricks Rem thunderbolt

Do it today. Tomorrow there may be a law against it.

plenty of norma tac and norma match-22 to be had
plenty of agulia at academy
academy has bulk pack delights of various brands for the spry and pray crew /hoarder types at times but it is funny as heck to see their little broken heart faces when they cant find none to hoard or scalp in the peddler newspaper or the flea market
plenty of cci stuff (except for the cci small game bullet)
seen a bunch of Winchester at midsouth shooters supply yesterday for local purchase when I was up their pickin up my norma match-22
see some rem tb at acadmy
bought a box as a joke

.22 can be found easy around clarksville tn

all except th friggin cci small game bullet

if I ever see any around

I having the wife and kids and friends buy their 2 box limit at academy or 5 box limit at midsouth shooters supply ASAP.....

I have not seen anything other than a couple boxes of target stuff on the shelves in this region for over two years. Fortunately, with the Big O's first comment about middle America clinging to religion and arms I stocked up. Now the guns are out and the ammo lives in the safe.

For the most part, still nothing here except for a few boxes if 17 from time to time.

Every now and then, Academy will have a few boxes with a 1-box/customer limit. I did get a 100rd box of MiniMags from Cabela's for $10, but those only lasted a day.

Other local shop has some federal auto match, CCI quiet, SV, mini mags, and some RWS match.

Seems like it's getting better.

Little .22 ammo here.. Some shorts, but none of the really good stuff.. Haven't seen any for several years since all this started really.. Two or three years ago, I was deer hunting in Pa. I went to a big gunshop in central Pa. and they had unlimited Remington 22 LR hollow points.. I bought about a case.. BUT that didn't last long.. Before i left, the ammo was gone.. And on a return trip last year there was only shorts, and some expensive match stuff as I remember..

In central Wy. they seem to have .17 HMR and .22 mag., but no 22 ammo other than maybe shorts.. Powder seems tough to get also. Although there are some numbers that seem plentiful.. IMR4831 is tough to find..

22LR a rare commodity but enough 17 HMR to arm a small army.

Still spotty here in the Deep South. Seems that the big box stores never have any, but the smaller gun shops/pawn shops have some every now and then. Prices are decent.

Even 270, 308, 7RM, and 300WM are somewhat scarce in some places (Wally World), so go figure......

Cabela's has it regularly, but it is almost always sold out by 10AM.

Wal-Mart claims to have it, but I haven't seen any at WM for several months. Have been told that WM empolyees are holding it for sale to their friends who, in turn, sell it at gouging prices at local gun shows.

None elsewhere that I've seen, unless you were will to pay $8 to $10 for 50 count box of basic 40 grain lead HV, the same stuff that was less than $2 per box of 50 before the school shooting in Connecticut.

I still have a few thousand rounds around, but that was more due to being out of action for most of 2014 than finding it in any quantity and at a fair price.

One of our local Walmarts had some for a few days about a month ago and one of our LGS's has a reasonable supply. I haven't really paid attention to prices since I have what I need.

Supply is picking up around here. Store a few miles north of me had about 100K rounds of various RF ammo in all iterations from CCI, Remington and a few others. Shorts too...

Better than it was, can find it more often than not. CCI standard $6.99 per 50, and Remington/Eley at $14.99 per 50 yesterday. Hit and miss on any brand or type. 17HMR is now around thought.

Thunderbolts can be had at the in-town Charlotte Walmarts. What's available at box stores outside of the city limits or in the surrounding towns is generally gone by 7:15 AM. Dick's in RH, SC hasn't seen 22 LR since before Christmas. Cabela's opens on the State line in a month. I suspect they may have a box or two then.

For the first time in 3 years I saw rimfire ammo on the local Meijers store shelf. They had about 30 100 rnd boxes of Remington subsonic at $9.99 each. Limit 3 boxes. Was gone the next day. I didn't buy any.

Very difficult to find here, John.

One source when asked, said none was available... unless of course you were buying a .22 from them. Then they'd sell you some....

Just yesterday my LGS actually had CCI Mini Mag HP at $10/100, limit two. A bit pricey, but not too outrageous. I'm friends with the ammo guy. He said things seem to be loosening up and the prices dropping a bit.

I hope the Winchester Power-Point becomes available, and I need some bulk stuff for when I am practicing marksmanship, and cannot really tell the difference between the semi-good stuff and the cheap stuff.

I'm still trying to figure out what the [bleep] happened in the first place?!

When I was paying for my two boxes of CCI mentioned above, the girl at the counter was pretty young. I asked her if she was old enough to remember .22 Long Rifle, but she didn't get the joke.

Sometimes my humor eludes everyone but me . . .

What little we have is priced to gouge, I was at a gun show last week and there were lots on tables at ungodly prices.

I could use another flat of Hornady 22 mag ammo

I was able to buy a brick of Remington golden bullets for 24.99 at Dicks and when I got home I got an alert from Midway. Shipping was $16 but I got two bricks of CCI SV finally.

In short supply around the Boise area. Cabelas, Dicks, the locals, never seem to have any 22lr around.

I quit bothering even to look, waste of time.

Had 5 cases of different .22 ammo on back order for over a year at Midway, they just cancelled them a couple of days ago, says they cant get them.

Champion Shooters Supply has Picked lots of high end ammo right now. It is pricey, but available for your fine shooting guns. Not for plinking.

The local store has been stocked with a good supply of 22 ammo for at least the last three weeks; similar story with several square feet of ammo. No limit, but fairly high prices. Doesn't seem to be selling out overly fast, either. I've stopped by a couple times and seen folks glancing at the ammo and moving on, as have I.

Was able to buy my first brick off the shelf at my LGS last week, in over 3 years. It was selling faster than he could get it re-stocked to the shelf.

7.2 cents/round for plinking ammo.

Pretty hard to find locally-I've picked up a couple of bricks by being in the right place at the right time. I've had the best luck with Midway by checking every day. CCI SV seems to be the most common at about $40/brick (both Midway and local store).

Local Dicks, Gander Mountain, Walmart get sporadic small shipments.
Sell out quickly, don't make it to the shelves.

Corning, Elmira, Utica, Albany, Schenectady, Kingston, areas of NY

Local Wally World had some .17WSM, but no .22LR this weekend. In the recent past, they HAVE had some Winchester 555 boxes, but the flatnosed bullets won't feed very well in my rifles. Besides, I already have two boxes of them. Can't find CCI MiniMags anywhere, but the local LGS has some, I'm told, $10/100 limit.

My LGS has it on the shelf continuously now. Seems to be a good variety. Can't say whether the prices are good or bad. Gave $60 per brick for Norma and $40 per brick for CCI, out the door. That's what the grandsons got for Christmas.

Yeah. I say that because I saw the same thing in Scheels one day. Went back at the end of the day (forgot something) and they were wiped out.

Picked up some CCI subsonic off Midway limit was 2 bricks. One store in the city has a bit of CCI fairly regularly. They will sell you a couple boxes at a time. Walmart gets it in but the regular scalpers are there every Thursday morning according to the clerk. There is a Dicks Sporting goods in the mall now but I haven't been there.

Just left a store in Tallahassee with a brick of Norma TAC .22. Didn't make a scratch in the stockpile on display. Dozen brands or so, shorts, longs and LR. All the .17 and WMR a fella could carry and more.

My LGS got in some CCI Standard Velocity and Remington Golden bulk stuff in today. Dang I wish somebody around here would get in some CCI Stingers!
I haven't seen any Stingers here in N.TX in 2 years!

There are a few gunstores in town that have it for $10-$12 a box of 50 and I am not talking Eley tenex either. 17HMR was $19 a box. I won't buy it at that. I have lots of 22 ammo but can't ever find the good stuff- it's always the promotional cheap stuff or the spendy Euro target stuff that was expensive 10 years ago. I would just like to find a brick of Aguila Super Maximum but can only find Colibri.

I'd love to get some of that Federal Auto Match. Funny how different places have different availability. The only .22's I've seen lately is Stingers.

Here in the Austin, TX area it is a role of the dice. Wally world is always out, Academy gets Super Colibris most of the time, and regular Aguila on occasion. The local gun shops have ammo, but not all the time, prices are better than last year. If I took a drive today and visited 2-3 gun shops I probably could come home with ammo, can't be picky on the type and brand though, just what they have on the shelf.

I was at the gun range on Wednesday and actually shot up 2 1/2 boxes of ammo in the afternoon, very unusual for me as I treat each cartridge like I am shooting gold nuggets. Usually use my pellet guns or centerfire over the .22's. But now that I can actually get ammmo I am loosening up some on the use of it. Frankly I don't think this shortage issue will end until Odumba is out of the White House. So will continue to use the pellet guns alot until then.

I am. What are you doing Friday night?

I left finger prints all over their collection of Kimbers and Model 70s. There were a couple that were kinda special. I went near where the others guns were and passed gas a few times. And in the clothing department too.

They got weird when I asked where the nearest live pigeon shoot was. Sissies.

I slept, mostly.

I was able to acquire a case of Federal Auto Match a week or so back. It was near Bozeman.

They must have had a lot of it because it was priced $30.00 per brick (the abbreviated brick) or $280.00 a case.

DigitalDan,
I used to live in Tally when he opened that store on Capital Circle years ago.
Kevin has always had inventory and the prices to match.
Haven't been back to Tally since the early 90's when I hunted with my younger brother on his lease out near Midway & Quincy.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Have a great weekend.

$30 for the 325 bricks of Auto Match? I bought some twice from one of the big shooting-supply sites during 2014 and never paid more than $20, including shipping.

One local store got in a bunch priced at $19.99/325 about three weeks ago. I didn't buy any, but half expected it to disappear quickly. Was in the same store this and about half was still on the shelves.

Meanwhile in Canada I bought fourteen CASES of SK this week, Standard Plus and Rifle Match. A bulk order for my silhouette club.

Prices are up 20% over last year. Lapua has raised their prices.

A week ago last Thursday, I stopped by the local Scheels store and they had about 30,000 rounds of Winchester 40 gr HP ammo. I bought the two 100 round boxes I was allowed and moseyed out the door. The following Sunday a buddy was in town and I suggested we go and see if Scheels had any rimfire left.......about a 1000 rounds was left. To be fair, we had a huge wrestling tournament and gun show in town, so no doubt that impacted sales somewhat.

I just went back yesterday after work and the rimfire ammo cabinet was stocked with 17HMR and CCI 22 mag. I need to get a 17.

Haven't seen a Mini Mag in 2 years......:(

I just got a brick of Mini-Mags last night from Scheels. They included the Mini-Mags with my rifle purchase and I bought a brick of CCI Standard Velocity as well. It's been blowing and snowing all day. Tough to see how this new CZ is going to shoot.

About two months ago (maybe less?) our local Big R got in a pallet of Mini-Mags. In a town this small the text messages and e-mails were flying fast. It was gone in about 8 hours.

Prices were pre-panic.

Local gun shop near here had a pretty good supply of the Rem Golden Bullet and CCI Mini-Mag ammo on the shelf. Just bought 200
of the CCI as I have enough of the Remingtons. My Rem 552 Speedmaster shoots them just OK. I hope it does better with
the CCIs. We'll see once the weather cooperates. Dave

I shot some of that Auto Match Friday at the southwest campfire get-together and was not impressed. Didn't shoot any better than an old box of Wildcats and not nearly as well as the CCI standard velocity. It did go bang, however.

Like most .22 Long Rifle ammo, how well it shoots depends on the particular firearm. Some rifles and handguns will shoot almost anything well (Eileen's Anschutz is one rifle, my Ruger Mark II "slabside" another), but with most don't. There are some kinds of ammo that shoot at least decently in a lot of guns, but there are always exceptions. In my experience Auto Match tends to work more often than not.

Between us we have 14 rifles and handguns chambered for the Long Rifle. Got a good deal on two kinds of .22 Shorts this past year and decided to see how they'd shoot. In some guns they did very well, in others they tended to scatter--and in others they were in between.

One never knows what a particular 22lR weapon will like. My 617 is not fussy at all even shoots Remington's pretty well. Of course extraction gets stiff on the third cylinder full.. A new to me CZ 452 seems to really like Aquila Rifle Match shot it under 1/2" at 50 yards. Did not like the RWS Rifle Match that others love. I have a box of the Federal Auto Match, will have to see what it does.
Local LGS still had the Remington/Eley Club at 14.99 per 50 nothing else. There was some 17HMR and 22Mag however.

Sporadic. Only two stores in the county that I live in even try to retail it at normal prices. When it comes in, you better be there because the next day it's all sold. Any other places get any, it's like $30 for a box of Minimags and such ripoff tactics. The largest local gun/hunting/fishing store gets in several cases at a time, usually CCI, prices it at what it was before the mothereffing democrats got elected and you've got 24 to 48 hours to get some and it's gone until another random shipment comes in. As far as Walmart goes, if they get any in, I've not seen it in over two years now.

I can drive 70 miles or so up to Huntsville and Larry's usually has some, but there's most often a two box limit per customer, so if you didn't bring a carload of people with you or actually live nearby, it isn't worth the trip.

I can't afford to buy in bulk anymore, so shipping charges usually make it uneconomical to try to order in from the internet site retailers.

I've stopped all rimfire shooting except for serious hunting shots, no more target practice or plinking period. This mess has accomplished in a roundabout way exactly what the gun controllers would like to see, expensive and hard to get ammo for the guns that are the basic meat and potatoes and beginners firearms. All some democrat has to do is go "boogah boogah" and the next day all hell breaks loose and people are scrambling all over each other clawing for the last box of whatever the boogerman of the week was.

It doesn't help that some people who are on the same side of the political spectrum as most of us think it is OK to scalp ammo. It's a free country and all, but IMO scalping ammo is playing right into the hands of the gun controllers. Ammo scalpers are hypocritical bastids.

I tried three types of standard velocity ammo in my CZ this week; Wolf Match, Federal Gold Medal Match and CCI standard velocity. All shot similarly but the faster stuff and the auto match were double the group sizes easily. I only brought one rimfire but shot a different one last week with the other three loads which did well in all three.

I wanna try some of the federal high velocity gold medal stuff
1200 fps range
cant find none around

they got the fed gold medal ultra match and the gold medal match at academy all the time
18.99 and 12.99 apeice

I shoot the norma match-22 currently
one thing I have noticed about accuracy in my rifle is the more bearing surface on the round the tigheter the groups

the CCI small game bullet shoots extremely well in it 1235fps and the bearing surface on the round is almost completely smooth

the agulia rifle match has a pretty long bearing surface and shot well but also had 2-3 wax grooves on it

the norma match 22 round also has 3 wax grooves

it is all what the gun likes and what you can find nowadays

if I could find some CCI small game bullet item 0058 5.99
I would buy the shyt outta whatever supply I could find of it

but until then
norma match 22 7.95
norma tac 22 5.99
cci sv 4.99
aguila rifle match 5.99
will do
and they all basically group within a 1/4th inch of each other at 50yds
and I can find them pretty consistently around here

Did not see much for sale at scalper prices at the local gun show this weekend, but still not on the shelves at the stores. Worked the door with a employee from a LGS and he was talking about how hard it was to find .22 LR from any distributors that they use.

I bought a Ruger SR22 today... they didn't have any ammo to sell for it other than some 50 rnd ct target stuff @ $30 a box.

I still have quite a bit on hand, but sage rats season is looming if not already here and it's gonna get dicey quick !

Honestly I hate going to gun stores anymore because the story seems to always be the same, no 22lr, no handgun powder.

I do see some thunderbolt on occasion, but until I'm completely out of ammo I'm not going to run that filthy stuff that is guaranteed to give you several failures to fire.

Lots of 17hmr.

22lr and mag are still sparse, at best.

Thanks for the rink. I'd like to hold out until I can find a supplier that as enough powders in stock to order six 8# kegs to make the most out of the hazmat fee and shipping, and I don't need six kegs of H-110.

I did just theoretically order 1/2 case of RWS 22 lr ammo

[Linked Image]

but I'm not sure if the seller has it in stock or not as it allowed me to order it, but then their website showed it out of stock. Maybe I just eaked the order in just in time?

Just now stopped in the local mom and pop.

Lots of 22lr. All pretty spendy.

The Winchester 22lr 100 packs were $10.99 and bricks were about $45.

Kinda a common theme. The stores that keep it on the shelves do so by jacking up the price. Not many people buying at those prices, hence it always sitting on the shelves.

Stopped at a LGS today and they had a few 50 count boxes of Winchester Wildcat 40 grain at $5.50 per box. I shot the schidt with the owner awhile and bought a couple of boxes.

Nice guy...handy shop to have around. He has to compete with Cabela's 3 miles up the road.

Hah, I guess there is at least one advantage to living in upstate NY. LGS has had .22 LR in stock continuously since Nov.. Right now has LRHP mini mags for 8.99/100, CCI SVLR 7.99/100, Fed. Am. Eagle 2.49/40, Rem. Yellow Jacket 85.00/1400. Dick's has Thunderbolts 25.00/500, Fed. auto match 19.99/325, Win. 333 19.99. Been pretty much constant supply here since fall.

Kinda a common theme. The stores that keep it on the shelves do so by jacking up the price. Not many people buying at those prices, hence it always sitting on the shelves.
But less than gun show prices I'm sure.

Couldn't tell ya. I got board getting all the old fuggers red faced by low balling their over priced crap and haven't been in a year or two.

Couple of weeks ago a shop over in Boise was advertising he had a pallet of Armscor 22LR for $65 a brick.

I avoid Boise and that shop if possible, so no idea if any is left.

A week ago, I bought Federal .308, .39-30, and Unique (limit two) at Cabela's. Academy had Remington .22 and some strange to me brand, with the same limit.

Four weeks ago, a shop in Austin had a good bit of CCI but the Two limit. First hollow points I have seen and priced at the new norm. They also had magnums, solid and HP, and .17's.

Was in my LGS today and didn't see anything but .17HMR, Stingers, and shotshells.

I did pick up 1000 209 primers, Reloader 15, and the first CFE223 I've ever seen.

I was in aother LGS yesterday, but didn't even look as the last time I looked, they wanted $9.95 for a box of Blazers.

Bought 4X50 at a local box sporting store last night. They had about 20 and limited to 4 Rem Thunderbolt. First plinkers I have seen for a long time.

Our big box stores are almost always out. As soon as they get it in they sell out the same day it seems even with a 2 box limit. The smaller gun shops in my area don't get bricks very often. But usually have some kind of 22lr 50 rd boxes available even with a 4 box limit they manage to keep it. You can't be picky though about it. One week it might be CCI... the next Remington. Also the prices vary even on the same brand ammo from shipment to shipment. They usually manage to keep it pretty reasonable. If I'm in dire need of it I'll stop in and get a few boxes. I've went to ordering ammo online exclusively to get the same brand and make ammo every time. I would love to support the local guys, but if they don't have what I want then they don't have it.

I checked the Walmart ammo tracker that was posted here not long ago - Walmart ammo tracker. As usual, nothing available. Then for the hell of it, I checked it again 10 minutes later. Bingo! First time in a couple of years. They had three 1,000 rounds big bricks. Another guy got there right after me so I took two and let him have one. Right at $100 for 2,000 rounds. Score!

22 mag and 17hmr available. Both going for a couple of dollars above good prices before the crash. 22lr spotty and prices all over the place. Saw bricks for $45 dollars at local gun show.
17 super mag always on the shelf at Chinamart for $15 for 50.

but I'm not sure if the seller has it in stock or not as it allowed me to order it, but then their website showed it out of stock. Maybe I just eaked the order in just in time?

Well, that didn't go so well frown My order made it from Virginia to Kentucky, got turned around by UPS and the seller says they can't ship to AK.

40 bucks for 400 rounds of AE? YGBSM. Last "brick" I bought was 15 bucks.
This is just criminal. I should get a bullet press and start scrounging fired cases -- set up for the 22 TCM instead. Good Lord.

Was on the Midway sight two hours ago looking at Rimfire ammo. On the tenth page they had $7.69/hundred boxes of blems. Limit 10. I don't know what constitutes blem .22 ammo. Edit to add: all gone.

After months of only being able to get a box of this then a couple boxes of that, nothing consistent, I bit the bullet and paid $.08 a pop for a thousand rounds of flipping WW Wildcats today to have whatever consistency that'll buy me. mad Honestly not sure if I should've bought more or less but what's done is done.

Cabela's HAD ten bricks of Remington thunder bolt @ $26.00 for all of about an hour. They had five bricks each of Norma Tac-22 and Norma Match @ $59 and $79. I have never tried the Norma stuff so I bough one of each.

Sucks around here in central NC too but I haven't been looking really hard either. Speaking of 22LR mainly as that's the only rimfire I shoot.

Nothing on the shelves here and I haven't been to Walmart at opening time, for a while. They used to get a little every Tues, Thurs. and Sat. but you had to be near or at the front of the line, or the same people would get them, every time. I got a supply to give away at Quemado, and for me to shoot by being there before everyone else, but I could only do that because I am retired. Once I got the small supply that I needed, I have not been back. I guess I need to go just for research. The Walmarts that are open 24 hours a day, I could never get any. miles

The .22LR situation is still dismal here in northeastern Oklahoma and, from what I can see, equally pathetic in northwestern Arkansas.

I live in a smallish college town of 16,000 population that is the county seat of a county with 44,000 residents. We have a 24 hour Walmart with an ammo display that constantly looks as though it's been raped, and two gun shops inside the city limits, with a third outside of city limits. None of the three LGS's have any .22LR in stock. We have Atwoods Home and Ranch in town and they sell ammo, but I haven't been in to see if they have any .22LR or not.

Cabela's in Rogers, AR was wiped out of .22LR when I was there last -about two weeks ago, now. Academy in Rogers didn't have any. Academy in Tulsa didn't have any. I don't want ANYTHING bad enough to set foot in Dick's so I didn't bother looking. Bass Pro in Broken Arrow ain't my favorite place, either.

But one of my LGS's did have a schnitzit load of IMR 4350 and 4064, so I bought several canisters of each....

The reason?

I can use that in my little Ruger M-77 Ultralight in .250 Savage -which for the last three years has been to me what my old 10/22 Deluxe was.

They also had .457" round balls and some 777 and I bought a bunch....

The reason?

My Ruger Old Army is now doing what my 22/45 bought right around Sandy Hook never got much of a chance to do.

Cabela's was loaded with .223. So was Academy. Both had plenty of 9mm.....

One LGS had a smokin' deal on a CZ 75 clone that looked decent, so I bought it just to take advantage of recent decent 9mm supply. I'll probably buy an AR so I can plink with a rifle a bit cheaper than I can with my .250 Savage.

In my area, there's a gun show virtually every weekend, within an hour's drive of my home.

And that, right there, is why I think I'm not finding .22LR on the shelves in retail stores. No real proof, mostly idle speculation, but I suspect that my local Walmart doesn't have any because a small group of people who are able to are getting there when the shipment first comes in and buying it all up, only to re-sell it later at highly inflated prices at one of the many gun shows in the area.

Someday, I hope it returns to normal. I'm still shooting, though... I have 9 boxes of WW Wildcats I'm keeping in reserve until I can find a brick to replace it, but until then, it's cap n' ball, my .20 Beeman R-9, and .250 Savage to the rescue !!

I picked up a box of 500 Thunderbolts at Sportsman's (25.99) over the weekend. They had a pile of them in the morning, buy afternoon they were gone. I'm seeing the same box sitting at pawn shops for $50, so hopefully the buying to resell is fading and we can get back to normal. I am planning another run to Sportsman's this morning to see if I can get another brick. Fingers crossed.

Went to WLmart on Saturday and asked about 22lr, clerk said you can buy one box, I said sold. Bought a 100 Winchester varmint rounds for $10... With tax. Was in Sportsman's while my daughter bought a pistol and watched a 525 pack go as well as 5 100 packs before I grabbed one that was left, another Winchester only this was small game for the same price as the first one purchased. Was at Walmart this morning. They got in some bulk Winchester in packs of 333. Picked up 3 for $17 each.

Gentleman said I was lucky as they had recently gone through a month of zero .22, then for a week they had it almost daily with a large variety, and today was the first he's seen in three weeks. Doesn't seen like the "situation" is better or worse locally, but glad I got some.

Was in Dodge Center, MN today. Local hardware store had 22LR on their sign by the road. Stopped in to take a peek at what they had for how much.

They had a brick of 22LR in a green box (not Remington) called CI for the low, low price of $74.99!

Our local shop had a brick of CCI Greentag last week. First CCI I have seen in a couple of years! No other rimfire of any kind, of any caliber.

I seem to find CCI Mini-Mags and Standard Velocity occasionally. Haven't seen any Greentag in years. What was a brick selling for?

I didn't ask, because I have never had good accuracy results from it. Still got two bricks of Sk HV HP so we are not short of hunting ammo. Plinking is a forgotten past time, however.

I used to be able to randomly catch it in stores in my metro market, but I think people know the stocking and delivery schedules so well that working guys never happen upon it.

When I see it on the shelf at dealers at ridiculus high prices, I do ask the sales person about it and then decline saying their pricing is too high and I'll wait for the market to correct.

Maybe by 2017 I hope...

Picked up 2 bricks of Federal Auto Match on Saturday at Wally World, I must have beat the old geezers that hoard the crap. I went to a not so local gunshop yesterday and he had all kinds of 22 lr ammo in stock. I need at least 10 more bricks to feel better. I paid 18 dollars for the automatch on Saturday per brick and I saw Winchester 22lr 552 pieces for 38 dollars at the not so local gunshop, he had one box and I wanted at least 5-10. Waiting for him to get some more in and I will buy 5-10 in one go.

My LGS here in upstate NY is well stocked and has been for the past few months. I picked up two more 525 rd. bulk packs of Federal Champions and 200 rds. of Yellow Jackets just yesterday. The shelves were packed with Mini-Mags, CCI std. velocity, American eagle, Winchester subsonic HP's, Rem. Subsonic, Aguila super xtra and Both Rem. and Win. high velocity shorts.

I havent tabulated it, but it seems like posters from more coastal areas have better supply than the midwest.

I dont find 22 ammo in the twin cities metro or any out state reatilers including the small town hardware store.

Funny how that works. None to be found on the shelves here. The retired hoarders are still scarfing it up.

Still very little in stock here. Cabela's had some last week, only Norma at $8 per 50 in cartons for $80. Cabela's also had some Federal 40 grain HV for $3.50 per box, but only in boxes of 50 rounds, limit of two boxes per customer. None at any of the Wal-Marts, Bass Pro, or Scheel's. Pawn shops have some at $10 per box.

.22 ammo supply is still abysmal. Allegedly, it is not connected to Obama's Presidency. In spite of that, it started with his election, and continues through his Presidency - for YEARS. Somehow, some way - he is the catalyst for it. It is just ridiculous that you cannot just walk into a tore and pick the .22 ammo you want. Heck - I bet there are people shooting now, that do not remember that.

I was at Cabela's today and saw that they had some tubs of Remington, plus some 200 round boxes of 22LR and 22Mag CCI. The last time that I bought some Remington 22 LR, I paid $12+/- for 225 count boxes at Wal-Mart.

Haven't seen any at the local Walmart in years now.

Seems the buckets of Remington are all I see anywhere. And those bullets suck.

Haven't tried the tubs of Rem. HP, but just shot a 525 pack at gophers this spring with out a misfire.. Accuracy was decent for bulk ammo.. I have never had a problem with this ammo, but WW 333 packs are something else.. Last one I had I dumped most of it down a prairie dog hole..

Only 22LR I've seen at our local Walmart in the past year or so, was some Rem. 225 packs several months ago. They lasted about a half hour, at one box per customer.

The clerk decided they were bulk packs, so the "three boxes per customer" rule didn't apply.

"New and Improved" Golden Bullet variety. Will say they aren't as gooey as I recall them being years ago? Haven't burned any of 'em up yet.

I was at the Syracuse Gun Show Saturday and I saw a few dealers with bricks/bulk packs of .22 LR. The going price was around $40 for Thunderbolts and $60 for CCI Standard Velocity. I bought 1 500 bulk pack of Thunderbolts for $40. I asked the dealer if he thought the supply was starting to loosen up any. He told me that if he wanted to buy .22's he had to order enough of other things to have enough "points" to get some .22's.

Yesterday Cabelas (in Buffalo) had boxes of 300 CCI mini Mag,
And 325's of Federals AutoMatch.

They had about 20 to 30 boxes of each on the shelf..

Still not seen anything from our traditional makers for about 4 years now. I'm 130 miles from the big box stores though and can/will not do the stand at the door on Thursday morning thing. Even then, I'd refuse to do the 30 or $40 a brick trick too. Thankfully, I have a couple cases left from my 2008 pre-election purchase. That middle America "guns and religion" campaign comment was more than enough for me to immediately stress the checkbook.

Anyone know how folks on other continents are doing? Europe, Africa, South America, Asia? How about the Canadians?

The Court street Dick's in Binghamton NY has had bricks of Thunderbolts for 25.00 frequently since Christmas. They've also had 325 packs of Federal auto match for 19.99 almost every week. I picked up two 525 rd. bulk packs of Federal Champions at Gifford's sport shop in Walton NY for 27.95 each last week. I was at the Syracuse show last weekend and the .22 prices were nothing but highway robbery.

I've given up on the LGS, save one, for rimfire ammo since the shortage began. Bought a case of CCI SV a couple months ago after convincing them I was not buying them to resell...They have been receiving good supplies of .17 HMR and .22 LR ammo for several months, more so recently. They also sell them on Internet auctions at crazy $....

I have been buying higher grade stuff in case lots at current wholesale prices from online dealers who specialize in supplying target shooters for the past several months...

Plinking ammo is still difficult to find in my area, selling out almost the day it hits the shelves...I've boycotted the dealers who limit quantities and/or jack prices and will continue to do so....Midway, Walmart and their ilk can stuff it....

My friends & suppliers in Germany tell me Europe has more rimfire ammo than it needs. They have sales on it. I asked what kind and they said plenty of European makers and even US, (CCI etc.) I checked with a couple suppliers on exporting some CCI to the US. They had all I wanted. The shipping would put my delivered cost @ $45 a brick. But I went ahead and got a permit for 300,000 rounds. That was when most anything that would shoot was bringing 75-100 bucks from the scalpers. But now things seem to be easing up, here, so I've held off. Don't want to be stuck with that much ammo at 15$ above the "normal" price.
To answer your question they don't have the hysterical hoarders and cannibals we have in the US and their supply of RF ammo is just fine.
I urge everyone to remember who stuck it to you during the shortage and never do business with them again, once the hysteria is over.

Nothing at Walmart here yet, but FOR THE FIRST TIME in years I entered Cabela's and found stacks and stacks of the good CCI High Velocity 100 packs in both solids and hollowpoints available.

Still one per customer, but the supply was huge, so that bodes well for the future.

They also had a lot of the standard velocity odds and ends they usually have and some bulk Remington ThunderDUDS.

Of course the demand may just continue to far exceed the supply and then we'll still have problems......but this does look better for now.

Like DancesWithGuns, dispite having four Super Walmarts within 30 minutes of where I live N.E. of Houston.....really have a problem remembering when any of them had 22 ammo. Do recall a clerk of one of the Walmarts I visit more often responding to my question about, "you ever get in 22 LR ammo in stock". Her answer was yes. My next question, "Are the same guys always buying it?" She didn't give me an answer, kinda just walked away.

But, other places that sell ammo in my area have had some kind of 22 ammo in stock for a number of months now. Might not be what I'd like to buy for the 22 rifles I like to shoot, when it comes to accuracy, but its 22 ammo and some of it is reasonably priced.

Still bad, some available but expensive and no choice other than what's here today. It will be gone by the next day. Other thing that is really hard to come by STILL is powder. Traded a Federal bulk pack for Titegroup the other day. Seems trading one can find more options.

I'm considering a Ruger American in .17HMR, just because there's plenty of it. A little pricey...but hey, so is .22LR. The LGS was asking $10.99 for 50 Mini-Mags! $13.00 for 50 .17's.

I thought, "What a stupid thread!"

Then last night the wife and I were trapped off island by traffic jam on the bridge. We strolled through Walmart to kill time. I wanted to show her the ammo shortage. I told her guys were buying 22 ammo and posting pics like a hunting trophy. I said, "See, they have a sign that says we are out of 22 ammo, and cabinet is bare!"

Then I noticed that there were three little boxes in there.
I bought them. The wife asked if I was going to post about it. I said, "No, I'm not that shallow."

Well, maybe I am.

From time to time you can pick up a box at the Local gun shop. Limit of one 100 round box per customer. No choice as to brand or load, you just get what they have. I haven't seen any Remington or Winchester 22LR for sale in a couple of years.

Our Cabela's in Springfield had the Stingers available.

Two box limit, per 50 ct box. $7.99.... and still too danged much IMO.

Grudgingly, I bought them and stashed them with the rest of my small horde.

When WalMart gets anything in stock - the "whore'ders" line up in the dark before the store opens and buy all they can. Then they try to sell in for unbelievable prices to the uninformed...

Was at the Academy store in NW Austin a few days ago, was shocked to see lots of CCI, and Federal. Academy has been good about keeping some Aguila around as well. It was on the pricey side, but bought a box of the hollow point Federal for $3.50.

I usually see .22 RF at my local gun shops now, so I pick up a box or 2 occasionally. Walmart is a total waste of time for me to even check. I am waiting for the bulk Blazer to show up, will get a brick or two of that when I can. It shoots well in all my guns.

The hoarding seems to be easing up in Michigan. I've seen 22LR ammo for sale on the shelves of three small shops in the last two weeks, and at reasonable prices.

I was pleased to see one local gun shop go out of business a couple months ago. Normally I would not say such a thing, but this place was notorious for price gouging on .22 ammo during the worst of the hoarding. It was well known around the area that staff from the store would pick up bricks of ammo on the cheap at big box stores and then resell it for 4 to 5 times the price in their shop. People took notice of this gouging, resented it, and the shop is now closed.

Phil99...good point on the gougers, it is time for them to pay for their greed. I also remember how Cheaper than Dirt were charging $199.99 for a brick of Armscor .22's awhile back. I always throw their catalog in the trash when it comes to me.

I went to my Austin Walmart today, low and behold, some CCI brand .22 inside the glass door. Wow, been years since I have seen that, looks like things are easing up.

Crises tend to bring out the worst in people, or the best in people. I think it is the same with businesses. My LGS seems to be charging "higher than expected" prices, but then I don't know what they had to give for it. They certainly aren't gouging to the extent some are.

When the various "black rifle" or "semi-auto" crises happen, they don't overly take advantage. They no longer discount, and charge MSRP, but they don't gouge. As you might imagine, hey also sell out pretty quick!

I have also seen them treat unknowledgeable widows fairly.

They have more than earned my business.

We came though the upper mid west last week.. One store had some yellowjackets for about 7.00/bx.. Many little sport shops had signs out .22 ammo for sale.. Didn't stop to check those.. Quite a few had signs in Wis.. In Minn. Wal-Mart had the first CCI Minimag HP I have seen since this scare first started it was about 8.00/bx. Stopped to get a Mich. fishing license in the UP/ ask about .22 shells, the limit was 3 bx. Fed. lr solids for 18/325..
This morning at another shop they had Thunderbolts and Golden HP for 24/525.. The guy said they will go quickly once news gets out that the store had ammo. Bought some for the guys back home if they still need it.. Hope this is a change for the better..
