Last night they replayed the scene where Elvis shot at the deer with his scope caps down. The old man said he missed because the scope wasn't calibrated. Last night they're deer hunting again and he has what I assume is the same rifle, but now the scope is removed. There are Weaver bases but no sights on the rifle. Low and behold the kid kills a deer with it. It doesn't look like anyone associated with the show has a clue about firearms.

I noticed that too. I know these shows are fake, but if you are gonna fake it, don't be lazy about it! After watching this show a few times, I think it should be renamed, "Alaska Bush Nerds"

They are total buffoons!
It is hilarious watching them try to pretend to know what they're doing.

I used to think the Kilchers(sp?) were halfway legit but the younger ones are dumber than chit. They obviously weren't raised out in the country.

Ye, I was really embarrassed for the Kilcher kid's when I watched the episode last week when they were trying to kill a deer.
They all need a lot more range time with their rifle's, especially Jane!

Was surprised at that scene with Jane as well. a 200 yard shot with a scope should have been a slam dunk. Also noticed that in most cases they don't use a rest. Even when stalking & needing to shoot fast I always carry a shooting stick.

Bush People has to be one of the most stupid reality shows on TV. I watch a few minutes when channel surfing for a laugh. No money for more than one chain saw or lumber, but they have a cruiser anchored in the bay. When the lumber was $10K dad paid only $5K & offered the boys as laborers. Next scene the boys shot a caribou & traded $75 worth of meat for the $5K
debt. It helps if viewers are as stupid as the Bush People.

Last Frontier is at least watchable. Bush people is beyond ridiculous. It's embarrassing, actually.

Kilchers and guns have not at all impressed me.
Atz Lee with that sod over his head like a sniper just irritates me every opener....

But as you can tell, we watch it some when nothing else is on, like Oscars last night...

I couldn't even watch Bush People, I got through the introduction and turned it off after how evident it was everything was faked. I enjoy watching Alaska Frontier, it's educational and not filled with people yelling at each other constantly. The "group hunt" episode was painful though, with Jane having a negligent discharge and then everyone missing deer repeatedly and taking 3 hits to put them down. It seemed missing was almost expected for them and they were proud of the "group effort" as if they were bowhunting bison or something.

Personally, if it was an issue of needing the meat to survive the winter, I'd have everyone in the hunting party shoot at the deer simultaneously, firing squad style, rather than taking turns missing it. They do seem like good people though, and perhaps they don't have the time/money for much range time, but I feel the deer deserve a clean death.

RE not enough time for range time... but they can afford to be flown here and there for a 150 pound deer... or take a boat etc...

They would be better served missing one trip and learning how to use slings, a rest, and some practice..

And even they have too much directed drama in the show for my tastes.... I suppose no one would watch it if not since most folks are ignorant to real life.

The flipping constant tweets or whatever drive me nuts.

The Bush People are ridiculous. During 1960 and 1961, I helped a family in their homesteading efforts. They were hard working but did not have much money. They used the chain saw to down trees for firewood but cutting into firewood was by hand. Of course, the splitting was by hand. Even though cash was scarce they made steady progress meeting the homesteading requirements. I was just a teenager but it was obvious the emphasis on improving the living situation. There was very little money to spend on ammunition. therefore emphasis was placed on getting close. It didn't take 35 years before the mother had a house.

I enjoy most of the shows set in Alaska, partly for the scenery, but also to see how some other people live. This Bush People show though, is completely unwatchable, IMO. Just a bunch of buffoons that certainly don't belong in the woods.

I somewhat enjoy the Kilchers, mostly for the wildlife and scenery. The people certainly don't seem exactly as the show portrays them. The 2 oldest women are full or mostly vegetarian and hate seeing something die. Did anyone see the episode where Atz senior shot the bear while his wife, Bonnie cried and agonized over it's death? Or how about Eve and Eiven cringing when they occasionally part a chicken from it's head? Jane seems to be about the most genuine of the bunch. That gal seem to be a pretty serious fisherwoman.

I enjoy Yukon Men and Life Below Zero with the exception of Sue. Like nearly everything on the tube, there's drama built into it. I just look at the scenery and some of the methods and enjoy those parts.

Like the time she went halibut fishing and took out what appeared to be a 9mm automatic pistol and began to blast the schit out of the fish while it was still in the water, and then casually dropped the loaded and cocked pistol on to the floor of the boat. I can only hope that she had the good sense to put the safety on before she dropped it. However, from her interactions with firearms as shown in the show, I kinda doubt it.

Yeah, we've seen a couple episodes that show that while she's game to use guns, she's not that well versed in being safe with them. Unlike the other chick on the boat who squealed in near panic at the sight of the gun.

Agreed, I don't understand the 200-300 yard off hand shots when there is a tree to rest against right next to them or they can kneel and brace their elbow on their knee, etc. One would think that would be part of growing up out there. From what I've seen, the two groups of people who really know how to shoot are Texans and Alaskans. grin

About the float planes, etc, the chances of them paying for that are slim to none. People that live there help each other out or trade to get what they need. It's the tourists that show up with money!

I don't know what the Kilchers are being paid, but whatever it is, I'd make a complete ass out of myself too, Hollywierd directed/scripted.

Hell - I do that for free most times.

Maybe why I like to hunt alone? smile

Atz is already quite successful and has plenty of money.

What I don't get, if you have lots of cash, why would you do anything scripted that makes you look like an idiot?

I guess money you have to have to pay bills and such, but its never meant enough to me, to portray a lie.

I guess these shows should be labeled soap operas though, I could understand it a bit better then.
