Was going through my grandpa's tackle box and came across this ice fishing rod that he built so I thought I would post some pictures. It worked pretty slick and folded up to fit in the bottom of his box.

Folded up.

Ready to use (minus line that wrapped around the top piece). Line went through the small eye screw down the rod and through a small hole in the tip of the rod section.

Disassembled to show the different pieces. Top piece was for the line. Loosen the wingnut to collapse/unfold. Tighten the nut to provide tension on the "spool".

Tongue & groove to keep the "rod" from moving.

It's not high tech like the new ice fishing equipment, but it works and there was no maintenance. This one is made out of solid oak.

Very cool, Sam. Well engineered, too. With the wingnut a bit loose, you could "reel" in the line by turning the line holder.

Beyond cool Sam.

And, by the way, did you notice you have the same name as that famous pony solider?

That's why I chose the name. Grew up close to Steele Narrows in Sask.

Cool! I think i will make me one for those days when technology sucks.

Of course, in your part of the world I expected to see something made from a sherwood hockey stick!
