My beagle injured his snout just above his nose. The skin has been cut exposing the flesh under his skin. He isn't bleeding or in a lot of pain. I squeezed the skin on his snout and the skin came away from his snout opening up a hole underneath the skin adjacent to the cut.

I put antibiotic creme on this cut and plan on taking him into the vet on Monday. Is their anything else that I should do?

It'll heal fine on it's own.

My beagle would get an injury like that when she tried to bury a dog biscuit on carpet. She would rub her nose raw and leave bloody streaks on the carpet. It always healed up just fine by itself. She never did figure out that she couldn't cover up a biscuit on carpet…

That's not an injury to a beagle. That's just another day in the brush! He's not bleeding to death, he has all four of his legs and I'll bet he still wags his tail! He doesn't need a vet...he needs to bite yer zzz and tell you to man up.

My golden has an affinity for squirrels. His snout is criss-crossed with scars like that. I think he enjoyed every one!

Be careful where topical antibiots are used. If a dog licks up much of it, it will be bad news for sure.

I doubt the dog knows of the scratch on its nose.

I don't think he can lick that. Neosporin Plus should do fine.

Dogs lick their sores and heal right up. Their saliva takes the place of man-made topical ointments. Just allow mother nature to do her thing. Agree with all the comments prior to this.

Dogs shrug off snout bites from crotalus virdis around here.
Head swells up like a pumpkin but no harm ever comes of it.

Critters are tough.

I used to think that since none of our dogs ever tipped over from diamondbacks. However, a good friend had a Chesapeake that took one on the nose while dove hunting near Chugwater and he didn't even make it back to the truck.

Cats can take body hits from all sorts and look dead for a week or ten days and pull out of it.

Some face and neck bites will suffocate a dog.

You can twice, Eyeball.
Binocular vision not withstanding.

I see it too, with both eyes open.

Too bad about cats.
