Myron, They are probably like most rifles. You can find a good one and you can find a bad one. People complain about the triggers, but the ones I have on the 100's as well as my 88 are not too bad. If you are looking for a less than minute of angle rifle, look somewhere else. My 100's (one in 308 and one in 284) will do 1.5" groups @ 110 yards with no problem, with an occasional group around 2" if I'm not paying attention. My 88 Winchester (308) is a reliable 1.5" rifle with enough under 1" to keep me interested in leaving it alone. When I bought it 25 or 30 years ago, I had plans on converting it to a 338/08 (now a 338 Fed). I made the mistake of shooting it first and it is still a 308. All three of my Winchesters shoot much better than my last three Remington Model 700/Model 7 bolt actions did before I had them worked on and the Winchesters look better too

I haven't had any reliability problems with them at all. The 284 ammo is kind of hard to find, so I hunt ammo and cases as well as deer for this one.

You don't want to try to disassemble the Winchester 100 unless you know what you are doing. It isn't difficult to do but it helps to see someone do it first and there are many videos on you-tube showing what to watch out for. I would imagine many of the problems people speak of with this model were caused by someone trying to disassemble it without following proper procedures. It can really screw the rifle up.

I guess what makes me like them so much is the way they look and handle. They shoot great for what I want them, which is deer hunting and I wouldn't hesitate to take any of them after elk if I had the chance.

Hate - semi-automatic firearms that don't work semi-automatically out of the box. Why should I have to buy & shoot 500 rounds of expensive, hard to find ammo for "break in" when the mfr was too sloppy to make critical surfaces smooth?

Hate - centerfire rifles that have rough POS barrels. If Ruger can put good barrels on $400 Americans, there's no excuse for a $1000+ rifle with a bad barrel.

Everything else, I can deal with smile

Mathsr,
Thanks for the info !
1.5" would be acceptable. What I would really love to have would be the Model 100 in a .243 and in carbine length. Not too many of those made but I would guess accuracy might suffer a bit with the barrel band on that model.
Someone had one for sale here in the classifieds a while back, but they are a bit rich for my budget, and I really don't know how much I would even use it. Just wishful thinking at this point.

Myron

I can't stand Winchester 88's because they remind me of Winchester 100's.

I could agree with a lot of what you say, except for Ruger Red Labels being "the Ford Pinto of o/u's" I have had one since the mid '80's and it has never let me down. For a few years it was the only shotgun I used. I shot thousands of rounds through it at skeet, trap, sporting clays and hunted birds, waterfowl and turkey with it. The gun never let me down, always worked like a charm and I can hit with it better than any gun I ever owned.

Like (not love) most anything that shoots.

Would not buy a Glock. I believe they are exceptional guns, but they don't fit my hand (I couldn't hit a #2 washtub at 15 yards with a Glock)
"The Warden" however, qualified for her CCW with a borrowed 45 ACP Glock at 97%

Since the order of the question is hate, then love.

My answer is:

Glock, Glock.

If the question was love, hate...

Different.... But the hate is still Glock.

Lol!

I love a lot of guns I see and hold, but sure hate that I can't afford them all.

Glock seems to me to be like that old saying,
"if you wanna be happy for the rest of your life, take a ugly girl for a wife"
as fellas that own em sure seem to like em, but, gad all mighty, are they ugly.

I have found love for Sharps 74's, Marlin 94's in 44 Mag, Ruger revolvers and 77 MkII's & S&W J frames all of my own accord. I also love the guns that were owned by departed relatives that meant more to me than any wood & steel contraption ever could. Dad's Win 71, Ruger auto 44 and Sweet 16. My grandfather's Savage 99F and Sporterized 03 Springfield. I have hated very few guns though. Only a Henry 22 survival rifle comes to mind.

Leave the gun, take the canolis.
