Think it'll snow? grin

I need to dig some guns out of mothballs and snap some pics. (But I'm not going out in the snow to do it!)

They are all fun to shoot unless it is cold and snowing.

Cold and snowing is fine for shooting, it's when it drops below zero that it's not so fun.

My favorite rimfire was my dad's boys rifle, a Remington #4 rolling block. I'll have to take a picture of it someday.

Closer runner up is a 39a Sitka Deer practically gave me.

One of the best summer trips I've taken with the boys included visiting an old gold mine and lots of plinking along the way.

You find yourself in the St. Louis area sometime just give me a call and I can solve that "never shot a lever action 22" issue. Hate to see a guy deprived of one of life's greatest memories.

You can't possibly be able to compete with a Sightron on top. ..............
Just kidding, I had a S2 6x HBR on top of my M77/22 for years. Great scope for the money but i replaced it with something smaller when my son started walking the woods with the rifle. There was a thread in the optics department just a couple weeks ago asking about Sightron and I couldn't get over how many folks didn't rate them well but probably never ever used one. Your picture just confirms to me that a guy with a first class set up like your rifle and uses a Sightron, well they can't be too bad now can they.

That photo was taken at the 2011 World Rimfire Benchrest Championship in Summerville SC in August and it was HOT!. Usually I can't use a Sightron on my sporter cause in the US our sporter weight limit is 7.5 lbs, which my rifle won't make with that Sightron. At the World Championship the weight limit was 8.5 lbs and so I was able to put it on. Normally I have to use the lighter Burris 6X HBR scorpe (discontinued). On both my heavy (10.5 lb) rifles I use the Sightron 36X scopes. They are clear enough and the accuracy of their scope adjustments are among the best - IMO. I've had lots of success with them.

i sold that Sightron back when i changed my rifle to a squirrel whacker for my son and now i wished i had kept it because i picked up a heavy barreled 10/22 set up just a couple weeks ago and it would be perfect for it. i knew better back then but money was tight at the time so i pay the price now.

coop, what is the top on your Hart rest? Make, source?

I have a similar rig, but not a top like yours. A local group has recently started shooting smallbore benchrest. I also got a Sinclair speed screw like yours, and wish I had done so sooner.

Paul, that's a Fudd top that was made by Mountain Specialties. As far as I know, the guy stopped making them. It has skinny sand bag tubes on the bottom and sides (to make it legal) and is width adjustable so I can go from my sporter (2 1/2" wide) to my heavy guns (3" wide) and not change the top. I like them but not too many rimfire BR shooters use the Hart base or the Fudd top anymore. The Randolph rest designed by Ken Fulghum is probably the most popular base now. I've never seen the need to change tho. This has been my set-up for over 10 years.

You can get a good look at the Fudd top here: http://www.accurateshooter.com/gear-reviews/randolph-machine-belt-drive-front-rest/

Sorry for the thread drift.

Probably not in the cool category but most definitely fun to shoot. Basic Ruger 10/22 carbine purchased new in 1968. I forget what it cost, the 1969 Gun Digest shows them at $54.50 so I probably paid about $12.95 for it. wink I refinished the stock some 40 years ago with a mixture of Tru-Oil and ground up charcoal briquet powder added for color.

Surface rust on the barrel, original nine pound trigger pull with lots of "honest handling marks" on the stock and I can name where every one of'em came from. In 47 years it has never, ever jammed, failed to feed, extract or eject. Not once. Back in the late 70's I didn't clean it for five years to try and see what it took to jam it and it just rocked on without a bobble. The only times it had a failure to fire was the ammo's fault. As of last Sunday it will still put 10 rounds into 1/2" at 25 yards which is as good as I can shoot with the peep sights and stay close to that at 50 with a scope. It has slain more ground squirrels, jackrabbits, cottontails, tweety birds, turtles, grasshoppers, snakes, soda cans, rocks, pine cones and "stuff" than I can count.

In its present condition it probably wouldn't bring $54.50 on gunbroker these days (that brick of Winchester Super-X might bring more than the rifle) but I wouldn't take a thousand bucks for it.

Jim,

That old 10/22 would bring more than $50.00, I can tell you that. Mine was also built in 1968 and is my favorite rimfire.

Alamo 308; I want to shoot .22s with you. Nice looking battery. What is the full length stock one (9 down)? Is #2 front sight upside down?

I'm assuming it is because it possibly interferes with the scope?

For just fun shooting I prefer mine and my wife's 39A Marlins There is also a D and a couple M's in there.

My better half will go out in some nasty weather if it involves riding the 4 wheeler and taking her 39A along.

Well, rifles I guess . . . He didn't post any picks of tables full of, racks full of, or rooms full of women. And the one woman he did post a pic of was packin' a rifle. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm talking about rifles. wink

This one is my favorite. It's a Savage Anschutz M-184. Shoots High Velocity Hollow Points into a dime size group at 50 yards with about any ammo I have tried.

cool Good catch, but no that's not an upside-down front sight. What you see there is the front sight mounting block for an aperture tunnel sight and with the sight dismounted. I have since removed the mounting block.

Thanks, Moses. Let's go shooting anytime.
Copied/edited from ArmsList.com:
The Cooey Model 82 was a single shot bolt-action .22 caliber target rifle used in training Canadian Army and RCAF cadets during WWII.
Large quantities later became available on the civilian market after the war as military surplus. Well regarded for its durability and reliability, particularly in the harsh environment of the Canadian winter, a Model 82 in good-to-excellent condition can fetch as high as $300-$400.

A couple I put together many years ago and hunt with regularly. The 52 with the maple stock is a tad front heavy, but the accuracy makes it worth carrying anytime. It was rescued from a state of neglect and brought back to shooting, sans 6 inches of the target barrel.
The top one is a Mauser trainer that I found in serious disrepair and cleaned up, sporterized, and had a Model 70 style safety built for it by a machinist buddy of mine. The little claw extractor is a work of art and it shoots almost as good as it looks.

Shot a friend's 455 Full Stock .22 LR the other day...very very impressive...all 5 rounds in one corner of one of those black 1" patches at 50 yards. Scope was a Leupold VX-I 2-7.

...as to the collection of .22s...there are more that I don't have photos of....

The 17" 452 will be the last .22 rifle to go....the others are just long term investments.

The 18 has an extra .22 Magnum cylinder...it is the best shooting 18 I have owned.
