The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution.

We were Soldiers (Once and Young), the book is outstanding
Enemy at the Gates
Tears of the Sun
A Bridge to Far, shows incredible and terrible leadership
Band of Brothers was very good.

9th Company, a Soviet movie about a squad in Khost Province in the 80's.

Shepherds of Helmand, a documentary about a US advisor embedded training team in Helmand Province in 2008. It won a bunch of documentary awards in 2010. A book about the group is currently being written titled, the Guardians of Helmand by LTC Dominic Oto a member of the team, a great guy, and a true friend.

A little movie triva I thought pretty interesting about the WWII movie Tobruk.

The actor Leo Gordon who played German Sgt. Krug in Tobruk also wrote the screenplay for the movie.

Due his intimidating size and tough guy appearance his face is likely most recognized for roles as ruthless villains in 50's, 60's, 70's television shows and movies.

I like many of them- I guess I like WWII movies the best because there is a tone and approach to movies made before the late 60's that most don't have anymore.

I guess my all time favorite is Sergeant York - a WWI movie that is more about becoming the man you are than war. I'll stop what I'm doing and watch it every times its on.

Another movie I really like is Sahara with Humphrey Bogart as a tank commander fighting to keep a water hole from falling into the hands of the Germans.

I've never had a reaction to a movie like Saving Private Ryan though. An amazing film.

If anyone hasn't seen it, the Russian Afghanistan war movie 9 Rota (9th Company) is pretty good.

Oh and I forgot to mention Lone Survivor, that was well done.

The War Lover is pretty good.

The Memphis Belle is good along with another William Wyler war movie Thundebolt! Which may be better.

Murphy's War will lighten up your war movie night - "Ah Louie, Ye Should Have Been There!"

Nobody mentioned "the Thin Red Line". One of my favorites. Most of my other favorites have been listed.

You do realize that the situation was completely unrealistic. There is no way a sherman sitting out in the open and unable to move would have a chance against a German company of infantry.

I don't recall the name, but there was a movie about TR's Ruff Riders. It had Sam Elliot in it.

Haven't seen Pearl Harbor mentioned.
One of my all-time favorites, and watch it every Dec. 7th.
