Why was there no shortage of .22 ammo when Clinton was doing his thing?

IIRC the panic was due to a rumor that the government was going to mandate a shelf life on primers, or something that would make primers go bad after a certain period.
The Clinton shortage affected mostly just primers which were near impossible to come by, again IIRC. I remember seeing guys at gun shows charging $20 for a brick of primers and thinking, "damned if I'll pay those gougers 20 friggin' bucks for a brick of primers." Going rate was about $12-14 at the time.
Times and prices do change...

Internet has been very nice, and has really intercoursed a LOT of other things up really badly.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

early 90's was all about large capacity magazines, cop killer bullets and so called assault weapons.
Question is, why 22 this time?

.
Question is, why 22 this time? The perfect storm of the second coronation of Obama and the Sandy Hook massacre caused every liberal lawmaker in the country to start proposing outlandish gun laws, some of which actually passed. This got folks started stocking up on ammo. Of course, when this happened, shortages started appearing which only served to make the folks even more determined to stock up, which made the shortages worse, which made folks want to stock up, ad finitum , ad nauseum. For a while there you couldn't hardly find ANY ammo. The shortages have eased up quite a bit now, with the exception of .22 rimfire, which is still in such high demand that shortages are still common, and prices are still high. Folks that used to buy a box or two to go plinking with now buy up all they can get their hands on, after all, there IS a shortage dontcha know. I just last year shot up the last of my 30,000 Janet Reno primers.

44 Mag handguns were pretty scarce back then. That was kind of the local intro to Taurus products then as they were available when Smiths and Rugers dried up.

I remember seeing guys at gun shows ... Those guys at gun shows that are asking absurd prices for 2-3 year old bricks of .22? In a few years, those bricks will be 7 or 8 years old, with the cardboard caving in on itself from being stored in garages under extremes of heat and cold. And I won't give them anything for it.

I've got 8k rounds of 30 year old Russian 22LR that was crap when it was new. The last time I tried some of it most of it would still fire and every now and then I can hit something with it. That's last resort stuff.

Don't remember a 17 rim fire being made in 93. See a lot of that chit all the time.

There's plenty of ammo for the Winchester hotrod rimfire that hit the scene right when the shortages hit….so nobody bought the rifles………so now there's no rifles to shoot the ammo in.

the big difference now is the proliferation of AR/AK/HK type 22's that blow a brick in 20 minutes. in 93 it was bolts and 10/22's mostly. my backstop has not been the same since we bought our M&P's.

that is something I hadn't considered at all.
I bet that is at least part of it, maybe a big part.

Clinton was busy trying to sue the gun manufactures out of business, instead of placing orders for billions of rounds of ammunition tying up components like bammy done. If Hillary gets elected by democrats next, I hope she hides primers up her and sycamores ass by the millions.

Well that's just dandy since it's illegal to mail order ammo here in NY Makes it that much tougher to get .22 ammo

Sycamore I dunno. I had Ramline 25 round mags for my 10/22 back then. So did anyone else with 15 bucks.

It's mostly foreign .22's that are available in any quantity. I just know this admin has to have a hand in this, and probably more than that.
