I just acquired a 99 D in 303 Savage serial number 219324. This is significantly lower than Murray's range of 238,000 to 290,000 (approx.).
99 D are not very common in Canada. Does anyone else have a 99 D in this range?

Bill, the 99-D was cataloged in 1922. Your 99 is too early for that. I think you have a 1899-A, take down Short Rifle.

IMO a more desirable rifle than a D anyway.

I have two short rifles as well, one solid and one TD/ The C and D have the rear sight closer to the receiver than the short rifles. Will try to take pictures tomorrow.

The change to the rear sight happened at the end of WWI, not at the switch to the 99. The switch to the 99 was purely a catalogue listing change, as far as is known.

I took some photos but can not figure out the program on my new computer. Will find a ten year old to help!

The D came from Nova Scotia. Haven't measured barrel diameter as last gun I checked gave different measurements between horizontal and vertical attempts.

The 2 F's would have medium weight brls. The 1899-A Short Rifle/99C/99D all would have standard weight brls.
