We loaned him a 30-06 and 165 grain Trophy Bonded bullets. He had a 7mm-08 but all he had was "deer hunting" bullets (forget "Use enough gun", I say "Use enough bullet"). Shot him at about 50 yards and the brush exploded with nilgai running all over. Dropped him in his tracks with a neck shot. He's not a full grown bull, but big enough!

Yeah, seems I read here on the Fire, it's not the headstamp...
I'm thinking 200 gr. NPT/.300 WM. Also, mono-metals seem well suited for Nilgai.
A friend and I hunted Nilgai on the Yturria last Spring. Good eating, for sure.
I'm wanting to shoot a cow, as I'm not interested in a Nilgai trophy, just the meat. He mounted his, looks better than I thought, still not a head I want to mount.

I have even taken a couple bulls with a .27-caliber rifle. They must have been gay....

Nilgai cutlets for lunch today- Texas style chicken fried, with taters, gravy, and green beans. Hope there's enough left in the freezer to get thru this winter.

Campfire Nilgai hunt? It would be a great excuse to bust out the .35 Whelen.

I'll try to ask around a bit and see what I can find in the way of some group hunts for nilgai. The ranch I am hunting doesn't really sell any hunts because the population is only moderate, unlike the East and King which have large populations. There are a few of us that take some each year as the opportunity presents itself.
