I'm considering a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4 or 2-7 for my .45/70 No. 1. Leupold suggests high rings, which seems odd to me. I want the scope mounted as low as possible.

Anyone running a 30mm tube on a No.1?

The lowest Ruger 30mm rings are mediums, anyway. I can't imagine that even with the bigger tube, a 33mm objective wouldn't clear.

I actually got to put my hands on a VX-R 1.25-4 with the lighted German #4 at a LGS yesterday. Pretty nice, and looks like the hot setup for running shots, if I ever decide to try one.
