wow I shoot a 45-70 or two or three almost everyday. someone on another forum turned me on to the 458 socom after I had problems with a ar 10. all I can say is wow! my cousin has more money then sense and all I have to do is comment on a weapon and he will buy one to try, so I get to play with a lot and don't have to spend much. the 458 socom is the AR for me. we shot 80 rounds today and would have shot more but it was too darn cold. the upper is a ASA and the barrel is Daniel Defense, cant remember what the bcg and lower is but it is topped with an Aimpoint 1x at 100 yard we were getting 1.25 inch groups with starline topped with 325g ftx. I think I am in love and am going to build one for meself! have never even wanted an AR after putting it down in 1970 but I think I am bug bit on this one. anybody have one ? and does anybody have good loading data? a convert.

I am getting good accuracy with 42 grains RL7 and the 300 MZBT in my Rock River upper. OAL was 2.20. Haven't had the chance to chrono it but quickload had it in the 1750-1800 fps range.

I have the Rock River beast upper on a homemade lower I built. I'm with ya deerstalker - fell in love with it the first time I shot it. Haven't hunted with mine yet but plan to.

I would have no problem using it at 45-70 ranges and am going to see just how it will do at longer ranges. I am blessed with 150 yards off my porch and have one hay field with up to 1000 yards. I think this will be a fun build. I have used the 325 ftx in my 45-70's to take elk and bear but have yet to use it on deer. I think the 458 socom will be in the woods with me next season. if I am still around.

I have been making my own barrels and for friends. Made a F1 suppressor. My favorite is a 9" and sub-sonic suppressed with 405gr. It will put a hog down easy compared to my 300FB

Fritzcat, what part of TX are you in?
And I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say, "let's see some pics of the shorty!"
