Hi all,

We have set the date on the first Ed T Backcountry Skills Camp for 2015. The Camp will run June 19th-21st.
The location is on a remote mountain property near the Scapegoat Wilderness, here in Montana.
This camp will cover basic fundamental skills for the backcountry traveler as well as emphasis on selecting and fine tuning gear systems such as shelter, packing, sleeping, cooking, food & nutrition.
Camping in bear country,backcountry travel and numerous tips and tricks specific to backpack hunting will also be covered.
All food is included in the camp and a number of shelters will be available.
The course is taught by Ed & Deb Tyanich.
Enrollment is limited so early signup is encouraged.
The cost is $495/adult and $295 for youth (age 12-17) when accompanied by an adult.

You're right Ed, and I'm gonna make it one of these years. I already have too many trips scheduled this spring and summer though, including one to Montana in April!

Thanks Ed, if I was going to be coming through there I would definitely take you up on that. We are going to be over in eastern MT. One of these days though.

I got the following email from a former camp participant, Dan Adair last night and thought I'd share his thoughts.

"Ed,
After talking to you on the phone yesterday, I felt like I should fire you off an e-mail. Over the years you've turned into the guru that I go to with any kind of gear questions that I have. It all started with the first ever skills camp you ran. It was apparent to me that you evaluate gear from the position of a man who has considerable experience in the backcountry, and without bias or professional obligation. You introduced me to an approach to backcountry living that not only dropped 10 Lbs out of my kit, my standard of living in the sticks is more comfortable and sustainable. I'd say your class saved me 5 grand in trying gear that wouldn't work out and shaved a few years off the backpack learning curve. But more importantly, it provided a foundation to work from for future skills I acquired. I would recommend your classes to anyone without hesitation, you can never go wrong with cutting edge gear blended with some old school bushcraft. The only opinions of yours I've ever had legitimate grounds for debate on, is your thoughts on craft beer."

Any chance of some of us hosting you to teach a class on the eastern side of the U.S.? I'd love to make it out to Montana, but work and family time is prohibitive. I'd imagine that a class could form pretty easily for something out this way.

Will do Ed, I have a couple hundred acres of private land next to 10,000 public acres. It's not Montana, but there's room for someone with itchy feet. I'll send you a PM later tonight

Hi Ed, what gear would I need to bring?

Sleeping bag & pad and clothing is all you really need. We will have a number of shelters available and we furnish all food.

We have had a couple cancelations, so have 2 spots left in the June 19th-21st Camp.
