I am getting a new rifle ready, and looking for advice.

I have found the Hornaday Whitetail priced as low as any,
how do they perform?

I have shot them only in my 270, but the few groups I shot were all under MOA at 100yds.

Farmboy1 - I also like the Hornady Whitetail but if not available I've found Privi Partizan also shoots well. One complaint however...the powder PP uses eaves a dirty residue in the barrel. Nothing a little Hoppes won't clean but you'll use more cleaning patches than what you're used to.

The Hornady load isn't too bad. I usually buy a cheap box or two of Win so I can use the brass for reloading. Not that you can't reload Hornady, but I prefer Win to keep it consistent. Something to think about if you're planning to reload.

I normally site in with what I will hunt with. Only time I buy "cheap" ammo is when it is in a caliber I don't have and need brass. Even then I usually just buy the brass and reload. Nothing wrong with Hornady Whitetail, just be sure your rifle likes it.

One of my Hunting buddy swears by the Hornady Whitetail loads. Haven't tried it myself. When I buy "cheap" factory ammo, I buy Remington Corelocts. It's plenty accurate in all of my rifles.

Son's Tikka in 270 loves them, and the Wife's Model 7 in 7mm08 shots them almost as well as hand loads.

It only takes no more than 2 rounds to get one where you want it, I guess that gives you 18 others to play with or something.

I do the same thing, but I buy R-P instead... grin

But remember to RE sight in the rifle with what ever load you are going to hunt with and use only the cheap stuff to get it close.

Even with the same weight of bullet, different bullet styles or makes can often shoot to a VERY different point of impact than another brand or type. I have seen as much as 6 inches off at 100 yards just going from one 150gr load to another in a 30/06.

As to performance, everything I hear about the Whitetail loads indicates that they work fine on game.
