Anyone have any experience with these?

Looking at them as on option for open sights on a build in progress. Biggest question I have is this - is the dimension specified for the front insert (i.e. .545, .550, or .555 in the case of the white bead) the height from the top of the barrel to the top of the bead, or is this measurement added to the height of the ramp to come up with the height at the top of the bead?

I've used the Masterpiece Banded ramp in the past with a Masterpiece front insert and calculating the finished height is not an issue. However, NECG's web site really doesn't give any detail as far as determining overall height when combining a Universal front insert with either the Universal Banded ramp or Screw-on ramp.

Holy chit . . . guess I may have to find a "Plan B". By my calc's using the Universal Banded front (.433) and white bead (low =.545) with a muzzle dia. of .660, I'd need a rear sight that was ~.903 above the barrel, assuming a barrel dia. of .810 at the rear sight mounting point or rear sight height of .855 if the low (.385) Universal screw-on ramp was used.

It isn't so bad when you come across the answer sheet grin

Kept playing with the numbers, adding heights together, subtracting 1/2 the barrel dia, and still couldn't come up with a number that seemed reasonable. So, I called NECG. Spoke with Mark and explained my dilemma. He was kind enough to email me a copy of the NECG catalog, which contains a table the defines the combined low, mid, and highest heights of the various Universal Ramps and beads/bead heights. There is also a table showing the same info for the Universal Banded Ramp and the various beads, and bead heights.

Let's just say that in the case of the Universal ramps and associated beads, adding the heights together is not the answer. In fact it's a far cry from it. Not sure how they ome up with the combined heights, and didn't get the chance to ask, but I'm going to trust their table(s) and give it a try.

Lee's right. NECG is good stuff, and their customer service is up to par IMHO as well.

I have put the Universal ramp on 2 big bore that I cut to 21". A Brno 602zkk in 375H&H and a CZ 550 Magnum in 416Rigby. I did it so I could leave the rear as it was. Put red fiber sights in and it works perfectly. It's an awfully good mod for a non adjustable for elevation rear sight.

After consulting the tables that NECG provided, I wouldn't consider any of the sight heights excessively high for my application either.
