Finally in my cabin off grid ( YAY )! But anywhoo....
I'm walking home from town this afternoon, a bit over a mile but an easy walk. Easy enough that out of towners tend to wander the public trail for a short walk or look see. Nothing really to see except trees and the train when it passes by. The trail is maintained by our community council and signs along the trail notify the tourists that any trail leading off the main trail is private property and to please stay on the trail. So these three goobers ahead of me stop and read the sign, they continue on up the trail to the second bridge, the bridge my property boarders on all four sides ( odd piece of land but it works ). My trail goes across the first section of my land and underneath the bridge to where my dog lot and cabin is. They are crossing under the bridge and headed down my trail as I'm going over the bridge, the trail that has 3 private signs on it. So I yelled over the railing asking them where they thought they were going and that I had seen them read the BIG community sign about private trails and had they not seen my signs at the top and middle of my trail.

Well sure we did but everyone knows Alaskans mark everything private even public stuff and we know this is a public trail.

So that's what I learned today.. Private means help yourself and please feel free to tramp through my yard.

I did go back to the dog lot and let 5 of the rowdy boys loose.

Of course a few hours later it was 3 snowmachiners who thought they'd just throttle monkey thru my yard..Ya know cause they always have ridden wherever and I don't own the land cause it's public property Ya know....

When government is in the business of stealing the property of one group to give to another, and also in the business of education, what do you expect? There is no respect, and no enforcement, of property laws from what I can see.

I'd be down to the local folks whose job it is... and asking about enforcement or how far I can legally go next time if they can't handle it.

Should I call the coroner first or whom?

That will generally get some action around here.

Maybe a sign that says: One Step Further and I Release the Hounds!

Neighbors north of me asked permission to pass thru, no problem at all they are neighbors but the ones that aren't neighbors and are just asses about respecting private property can take a hike.

A loud barking mean dog would probably help them think twice, I would think.

Otherwise, maybe some redneck junk "guarding" the trail so that they know someone owns it and stakes a claim to it.

Is a fence out of the question? I know you are off the grid and shouldn't have to use one but......

When you make that, finish it by "signing" it as "The Baskervilles." Should (at the very least) keep the educated yupies out wink

A sign: "Hannibal, the Lecher" might keep a few away.

"Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again."

My all time favorite which I read about somewhere was a sign posted on some private property owned by a gay hunting group. "Private Property! Trespassers will be violated"

Nice to hear from you, Annie. Been awhile.

Persecution is a much better solution than prosecution too. I have very little faith in the courts. This is Alaska after all.

Saw one in Dallas Sat on an electric fence around a house that said:

TRESPASSERS WILL BE COMPOSTED!

But seriously, you can get official-looking signs at a feed store warning about "electric fence".

Leave a few wire strands hanging from insulators. Use those to remind you where the trip cables are.

All very good suggestions!!

To the fence idea..to much area to fence in and the RR has an easement thru the middle of the property so that would kinda put a kink in their access.

Hi las!! Been here just don't post a lot anymore.

Going to spend the day brainstorming a solution as the morning wake up call was a jogger with a loose dog passing within feet of the dog yard. I think I heard my dogs yell SNACK!! but they couldn't get to it wink

probably going to take some due diligence Annie, you're going to need some help from neighbors most likely to track where these folks live and then take the dog team over to their places give them a big feed and let them do their biz in those folks front yards

leave a sign, you respect my private property, I'll respect yours, deal?

While frusterating wink there is a lotta fun a person could have with this situation.

Signs:

What part of "PRIVATE" don't you understand?

10 MORE FEET AND YOU OWE ME A WEEK OF DOGSHIT SHOVELING!

how's your insurance? Does it cover gunshot wounds?
(Not a threat, just a question smile )

In order along the trail, with the final one..."Now you're messing with a Son Of A Bitch!

Give or take.

I've come to the realization that people just really don't care any more. We have a couple[N.J. Retiree's] that bought a house w/ 10 acres next to our property[land I foolishly sold years ago]. I asked a while back if they thought they had purchased land in the middle of a National Forrest?? Blank stares was all I received.

Well, they ARE from Joisy.

When some friends started traveling years ago, they quickly discovered that if they said they were from Alaska the questions never ended. The next year they claimed NJ and the questions never started.... smile

Found a dog collar on a trail yesterday evening. Just happened to belong to one of the Jersey couple's dogs.
May have steal the "composted" idea.

Unfortunately if you want to limit your interactions with people and have your private property respected, being a mile from town isn't anywhere near far enough away.
