In wyoming 22 center fires are legal for deer and antelope. If the bullet is 60 grains or more.

I have a 22-250 with a 14 twist.

I just now tried the 60 partition and it shot 12 inch groups at 160 yards.

Has anyone had good luck with the other 60-65 224 bullets in a 14 twist when the partition failed?

They aren't turning side ways. Nice round holes just a long way apart.

I've pretty much just shot 50 ballistic tips in this rifle before, which I note are longer than the 60 partition according to nosler.

Right after the foot groups with the partition I shot a 1.5 inch group with the 50 ballistic tip.

Try hornady 60 grainer soft points, Sierra 63 smp, winchester 64 grainer, or Nosler bonded 64 grainers.

Easiest will probably be the Sierra 63 smp.

I had great results with the 64 gr WW power pt in my ss M77 Mk2 22-250 with a 1-14 twist on antelope. Used 3031 IMR. Magnum Man

I've used and had easy deer accuracy at 150 yards with both 63 SMP (Sierra) and the 64 Powerpoint in 14 twist 222s; more better in the 12 twist 223s from the same era though.

Its legal in Idaho but I have no need to try it. My 30-06 is a lb lighter than my 22-250.

Load up some Barnes 50 gr ttsx and give em a go. The faster the better and will easily and ethically kill deer doornail dead.

64 grain Winchester/Olin PPs might work.

You musta missed the part from the OP that said he had to be above 60 grains to be legal....

That's the list I would suggest as well. Since the rifle obviously likes BTs, I'd also give a few 60gr BTs a try if just for giggles.

Don't give up if all you've tried is the 60 partition. If you read much on here you'll find that a lot of people have trouble getting them to shoot decent, and I'm one of them. Tried them in three different 14 twist rifles. With my Tikka I couldn't even hit the target. I got my Swift down to about a 2 inch group. I did get a buddy's 10 twist 223 WSSM down around MOA with them. I finally got tired of messing with them and traded them to someone else.

I've currently got some of the 64 Noslers and 63 Sierras to work with. Too bad you can't use the little Hornady 55gr SP. They've shot great in everything I've tried them in, and flatten deer!

I was concerned that any bullet above 55 would be bad. The partitions aren't key holeing but I was wondering if they are on the verge of it and that's why they shoot so bad.

So it made me wonder if I'd have the same results with any 60-64 grain bullet.

Any one have a "sample pack" of the suggested bullets they'd like to sell?

As already suggested the 63 gr. Sierra and 64 WW work fine out of all of my .22-250's and Swifts.. I also shoot them in my .222 and .223 for gobblers.. The 60 gr. Part.s have always shot very well for me.. I use I4350 with all of these bullets.. The Sierra is a bit soft, but we have killed several dozen head of big game with it..

I'd have to look at home, but I think I might have a few 60gr Hornady's that your more than welcome to. Just let me know where to send them.

If you have a loaded cartridge in the field, how the puck are they going to check the bullet weight?

And, you probably missed the ingwe doctrine: 55 gr. Barnes are better than 50 gr....

But, that's with faster twist and of course, in his .223AI/McFlame...

Bullet length is critical to twist. The 64 gr. BSB looks pretty stubby to me and I would try those, in fact am working up loads for my Rem .22-250/14 twist, using those and 64 gr. Power Points.

I have a Browning A-Bort 1:14" that shoots 70gr Speers very well. Those bullets are semi-spitzers, so are short for weight.

I am going to try 53gr TSX in it this yr. They will work fine on deer.

Dat's why it takes 22 boolits to kill one!

I've used 65 SGK and 64 Nosler Bondeds with success and they shoot better than the NPTs in my rifle.

If 60 grains is the minimum weight, I'd look at the 60gr Hornady spire point. I've killed quite a number of big game animals with it in my .220 swift. It worked as well as anything else I've ever used.

We use the Hornady 60SP also on deer here.

I think the Sierra 63SMP will almost guarantee to shoot well in a 14 twist. Sometimes the most accurate bullet period.

Yep the 63 gr Sierra is the best thing going for accuracy.

63SMP is my go to 223 killing stuff bullet. Works a lot better than they should for what they cost.

Ever heard of a battery powered scale and btw some game wardens will pull them to weigh them.

Gotta be 60gr or more TM-60 gr or more.

DAMMIT Ingwe....Beat me to it again. OTOH SPEER 70 gr in my son's .223 w/14" twist shoots into MOA @ 2970+/-.

I shoot Nosler 64 gr. Bonded in my 223 Rem. with a 1-14 twist nice 3/4" 5 shot groups. Been using them on the big north woods coyotes 1/2" to 3/4" exit holes, should work great on deer.

Thought I'd post up a report.

I got a sample pack from a member here. And did some real serious load development last night.

I chose H4895, because I have plenty. Seated some 63 Sierras to fit in the magazine and tried them out this morning.

They did this at 200 yards.



I know I missed the quarter, but do you think by playing around with the seating depth, adding or subtracting a few grains it might work.

That's plenty fine for deer.. You're not going to be tossing them much farther.

sierra 65 grain btsp works really well for me in .223 Rem over Varget, worked real well on a deer last year as well, and several yotes

I use 75 gr. SSII's in my .22-204 over Varget. But, it's fast twist.

Picked up two boxes of the Nosler 64gr bonded at a local shop today. Going to put them though my 22BR and 223. Also walked out with a score on 42 pounds of Reloader powder. Pays to stop and look

What RL powders did you get?

15,17,19,nd 22 $16.95 a pound, $754.56 out the door for 42 pounds.

I asked the lady if this price was right, she said yes, asked if there was a limit, she said no. Asked is she had some boxes and she said yes to that. Well I'm set, I didn't even use my tax number to raise a red flag.

Keep me on the range is better said, those bonded bullet were $39.76 a box and what I see on the net that's not a bad but not great buy.
