I am looing for a genuine P. O. Ackley left hand Mauser action or rifle made in Japan.

The action - rifle must have the original side safety and gas shroud, trigger guard / bottom metal and have the standard 0.473 inch (30-06 cartridge family) bolt face. It must also have the C Cut receiver ring, not a H cut.

Thanks, in hope etc..

I'm sure you realize that P.O. only had about 50 of those made. You'd probably have more luck looking for a four-leaf clover. But they do show up from time to time. I think I've seen one or two for sale (in the last 30 years).

Spot on PB , Only Actions, No Rifles were imported !
When I got wind that these first arrived at Ackley's , I called him and found that all of them had been sold .
PO said more were coming , but something went wrong with the deal, and the first 50 were all that ever arrived.
Harry McGowan got about half of that first batch, but that was the deal from the gitgo.
I called Harry right up, and He laughed , wished me good luck in getting one, He knew early on it was chancey in getting any more.
Been keepin' an eye out for one all these years , never heard of , or saw one for sale .

I'd recommend buyin something in current production .

Good luck, Rich

Dave Petzal of F&S had a custom rifle built on one of those actions - in .270 Win, I believe.

Here's a thread on the Fire from last year (not about Petzal's rifle, unfortunately):

$1850 = Big Deal

IMO not worth anywhere near that

I have investigated this option - the left hand Mauser on the Accurate Reloading Forums.

It was originally listed as a left hand P O Ackley Japanese made Mauser 'clone', after the early FN Mausers. However, there are a number of important discrepancies between this and the description of the Ackley Mausers in De Haas's book.

Ackley Mausers are C Cut inside collar receivers. this action has a H cut inside collar like later FN Mausers and the Serbian Zastava actions. The bolt diameter is circa 0.700 inches, where as Ackley Mauser bolts are 0.705 inches in diameter.

Additionally, the gas shroud, side safety and bottom metal / trigger guard have been changed / 'up graded'. The bolt is different too. You will notice it is long and straight, where as the Ackley bolts are more dog legged, after the Win 70 bolt style.

So, I will keep looking. I was hoping to reach out to someone who has a left hand Ackley Mauser, and might be prepared to sell, through these forums.

If it's a genuine Fred Wells action, it probably is.

Just looked at the pictures. The action is a little crude. Needs lots of polishing work. And only a military trigger? Not for $1850.

First it's implied that it's a Fred Wells action. Then an Ackley. Doesn't look like either one to me.
