I'm looking at the Nightforce NSX 5.5-25x56 MOART and the Burris XTR II 5-25x50 mill dot I'm not doing any competitive shooting it will be going on AR platform and the range I'll be shooting would be out to 600 yds.and may be farther just for fun varmint, prediter, and deer along with some target shooting I'm not going to be abusing my rifles so durability is not a big concern nor is weight prices how ever are I'm looking for the most value for the dollar the NF is going to run $1650 vs the XTR at $950 if there are any others I should look at please note I would like to be in the XTR price range obviously. Thanks

Those are both massive scopes for an AR and those ranges. The Nightforce is a Nightforce. Do not think that you're getting the same or even close with the Burris. It's not hard to find used NF's under $1k regularly and that would be the way to go, though I would not go with a x56mm model.

For re-sale, the NF would be the way to go but also go 50mm vs 56mm in regards to resale.

Not saying they're not out there, but I can't say I've ever seen a NF with Zero Stop/High Speed go for a grand.

You really couldnt have picked two more dissimilar scopes to compare. As such, a decision between those two would boil down to what features you want. Nearly every conceivable trait of these two scopes is different.

DO you want MOA or Mils? FFP or SFP? 30 or 34mm tube?

MOA, unsure about first and second focal I've read that first focal is a must in hunting situations. But I'm not sure I have never owned one guess that's why I'm looking for answers tube size I don't know that it matters very much weight is not an issue either

If you want MOA, then the XTR is out, unless you want the 8-40 model. This model, and this model only, is available with an MOA F Class reticle and MOA turrets. The remainder of the line is MIL/MIL.

For a similar MOA scope, look at the Veracity from Burris. Very similar to the XTR, but with MOA options, capped turrets, and a 30mm tube.

Also I have been looking at the Nightforce SHV I'm guessing it would be similar to the Veracity.

Yes, it would be, with the exception of that ridiculous 56mm objective on the Nightforce.

You won't be disappointed. I fail to see a problem with a 56mm objective.

For an AR and 600-yards why not get a SWFA 3x9, 1-6 or go 2-10 x 40 NXS?

Never thought I would see the day where Burris is considered on the same plane as Nightforce. I agree with Form; either of those are huge tubes for the top of an AR.

They are big for an AR but if it's for just informal shooting- it won't hurt. I can't imagine the 56mm lens on there though.

As far as being on the same plane, I don't think anyone suggested that. He just had it narrowed down to these two. They do have very similar looking turrets- maybe that's what he liked.

The few reviews I have read on the XTRII of recent have suggested that it has extremely accurate tracking, lots of elevation and glass that is not as good as the Nightforce. I guess time will tell how they stack up. Not a lot of scopes out there that have all these features for $1000-$1200. The prices the OP listed were much cheaper than any I can find right now. An NXS with a zero stop is going to be $1900.
