How much to get a good hunting barrel installed on a Ruger m77 action and ready to shoot? Where would be a good place to get it done if there are no gunsmiths in your area?

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I have gone this route a couple of times now, and I like dthe idea that having the barrel maker and installer be the same person or place removes the "it is THE OTHER guys fault the rifle does not shoot as well as it should!" headache. It has been a few years since I had a rifle re barreled, but IRRC my last one ran about $500 installed, finished and ready to shoot. This can be done for about $300 or so by ER Shaw, and I am hearing good things about their barrels. Though they are not a benchrest winning or 1,000 yard gopher killer quality, it seems like they are better than factory barrels (which are of late, often quite good now) and MORE than good enough for big game hunting. I am about to wring out my first ER Shaw barrel, a 1 in 9 twist 220 Swift, that was already installed, new, on a rifle that I purchased. Stay tuned for a report on this project, hopefully soon. What caliber are you going from, and to? Often a barrel that is already on the gun can be re bored and / or re chambered for much less. JES re boring puts out some real shooters, cut rifling. My wildcat 340 Tyrannosaur (338/8mm RemMag) is a re bore from a shot out 300WBY. My 35 Whelen is a re bored Model 7600 pump that started out in life as a 30/06. Both rifles shoot extremely well. Even the pump is surprisingly accurate. I now look at re bore and re chamber as a first option before buying a new barrel.

From Pacnor it's around $600 or a little more, depending on what you get. Inflation strikes everything, and I figured it would be a little higher than 5 years ago. That is good to know. If I was going to have someone besides the barrel maker do an install, Redneck would be at the top of my list of 'smiths.

Most tubes are around $350, most smiths are $300+ to chamber and install.
Curious, did you burn out the original barrel? That takes a lot of rounds from a Swede.

I'm sorry, but I have lost interest in PacNor charging $300 for a barrel and then $300 to install it. If I wasn't going to let Redneck do it I would call Dave at IT&D. powdr

I clean it good and groups go back to a half inch or so. It's kind of aggravating at times. I have thought a couple of times in the past that the scope went bad but it hadn't.
