Getting ready to rebarrel. Anybody have any experience with Hart barrels,and their ability to rebarrel a rifle?

I have some Hart barrels in 22PPC, 222, 223, 22-250, and 6BR. All are heavy contour and good shooters. I have seldom had a bad barrel, a barrel that wouldn't shoot good groups with some bullet/powder combination. About one-half of my Hart barrels arrived used, take-offs from serious paper punchers who felt that they were either losing "match grade" accuracy or close to losing that level of accuracy.

I have never had Hart do any 'smithing for me, so can't comment on their work.

The New York shop makes the barrels.

I know a few guys that let Hart rebarrel there rifles, they all shot better than m.o.a. I had been good friends with Bobby Hart for over 40 years. He is the current owner of RW Hart and Sons in PA. I have shot beside, hunted with, worked and traveled with Bobby. His shop turns out some very fine shooting rifles, and they use Hart barrels for all there builds unless a customer brings a different barrel with him. Getting back to the NY Harts, you will be more than happy with there work and there barrels. There turn around time was 4 months out 20 years ago so I dont think they got any better.

When building a rifle my first choice in barrels is either a Shilen or Hart .

This is the information I'm looking for.

I've only had one "go" with Hart and I don't plan to do it again. We had some communications issues with my order. I thought I was real clear about what I wanted. I've had 7-10 aftermarket barrels from other makers so this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to picking a contour. They sent something else.

We talked about it both by email and phone. They refused to stand behind their mistake.

My gunsmith tried to build a compromise rifle using what they sent me, trying to save the project / build, but I was never happy with it and wound up selling the gun for a pretty steep loss.

I don't think I'll be using Hart as a barrel supplier again. There are plenty of other very good barrel makers who understand customer service. Hart does not.

On the other hand, I went to Hart for a custom prefit barrel to fit my Colt M-4 Carbine. I wanted a heavy 24" 1:9" twist barrel chambered for .204 Ruger, but made without a gas port. The idea was to build a straight-pull bolt action varmint rifle that didn't scatter brass all over the landscape. Hart listened to my idea, made some recommendations and produced exactly what I wanted. They were the only barrel maker that would make what I needed (everybody else probably thought I was goofy). Took awhile, but seems to work. Every other Hart barrel I have has been a good shooter.

Ten shot group below, with two moron jerks on the trigger, show the barrel is good. Not bad for a tiny 24 grain lead free bullet dinking along at 3,900 +/- fps.

Have five hart barrels from 280AI to 7mm dakato to 7mm stw and never had a bad one. They did not do the smithing on my rifles but they have all severed beyond what I expected. James Messer from Sylvia NC did all rifles......

I had Hart re-barrel a Model 70 Classic in 270 Winchester with one of their SS barrels. I am running 130 Barnes TTSX thru it and am very happy. I also have a Lilja on the same type action and caliber. I am seeing very little difference between either barrel. Hart is good to go.
