If your budget is open, the Ruger 77/17 is a nice rifle and a 4-12x40 Leupold would be a nice scope for it.

If your budget is tighter, I really like the Marlin 917, both the heavy and light/sporter contours. I have a Sightron S1 4-12x40AO on my 917VS-SF and think that it is a combination that would be hard to beat without spending a whole lot more $$.

Since these are rifles that I use during our hot, humid, summers, I prefer stainless to CM.

I would throw CZ in the mix if budget will allow.

Assuming you love him...RAR Hummer,Bob 25MOA extended 1913,Reuplod PRW mediums and 6x Fixed Fhuqker.

Don't fret that it's all over your head...just do it.

CZ's suck heavy ass in comparison and the 4-12x is a joke.





CZ 452,RAR,77/17 for comparison.

The RAR has the trigger,better mounting system and boasts the best mag in da' bidness. They also happen to shoot incredibly.

I'd vote for either Ruger as the others have the mag hanging out the bottom, which is both a PITA and oogly.

The 77/17 is prettier, but the difference in price will buy a lot of ammo. Stainless is a good option, however for forgetful youngsters, especially if WA is as soggy as they say.

I have 2 savages in 17 HMR both are tack drivers.

I've got both 77/17s and CZs and have been happy with both.

Check out Whittakers as they usually have nice prices on most of the aforementioned rifles.

I am going to put my vote out there for CZ, specifically the 452 platforms. I have a 452 American in each of the four calibers produced at one point by CZ (17HM2, 17HMR, 22LR, and 22WMR). Each of them is an absolute joy to shoot.

The 17HMR in particular has been a great joy. It is extremely accurate, not picky about ammo, and it very well put together. I enjoy it for plinking, varmint hunting, and just casual range time.

The prices are fair and I don't think you would be disappointed.

My CZ 17hmr has outshot the 3 Anschutz 17hmr's that I have owned. Scope mounting can be a pain and the triggers are terrible out of the box. The payoff for getting through these issues is a tack driving gun with great reliability. If you paint it Chartruse and White like the gun pictured above, it will shoot even better and you will become an expert on guns that suck.

I just ordered the savage A17 semi auto. It should be here by the end of the week. 419.00 accutech trigger. I cannot wait. A17

Chartreuse still isn't spelled "Chartuse",but folks can ONLY do their "best",with what incredibly little they have to work with . Laffin'!

I reckon the one wearing the Reupold Mk4 M3 6x is a heavy concession,to some folks Realities...though not mine. hint.
