One of my buddies has a mold that throws an 1100 grain bullet. He has a Martini 12 bore rifle and I'm in the middle of building a similar rifle. I got a 115 cast this afternoon before my propane ran out. I'll get a bunch cast up tomorrow once I get some more propane. The one on the left is a 300 grain 45 caliber bullet for comparison.

All y'all are welcome to shoot a beast like that off the shoulder. Just count me out!

For sure would not want to be on the receiving end and questioning the sanity of being behind the launch point as well.

Should buck the wind fairly well though.

I'm betting it would put a pretty good hurt on a pig. The guy who owns the mold lives in Florida and does a lot of pig hunting. He's anxious to get a shot at a pig with this bullet. I don't know if it will shoot in my Martini when I get it done. Mine has a 1/88" twist, geared more for round balls and short conicals. His rifle has a 1/36" twist and he says his rifle drives tacks with this bullet. It will be interesting to see how it shoots.

You need FAA approval to launch that thing?

I'm launching exactly half that bullet weight in my 45/110 over 105 grs of BP which is close to borderline obnoxious and I'm very recoil tolerant but this bullet would redefine pain unless the weapon has wheels and a trailer hitch.. grin

Let me know when you hit the range with these things. I'll go the next day and dig one or two out of the berm. If I melt them down they should keep me in 32 H&R bullets for a year or two!

Tryin' to wrap my feeble mind around the idea of launching 2.5 oz of lead from a 12 bore. I can't. 6 bore lead....

I understand the concept of 1,300-1,800 grain bullets from BP bullet guns, but they weigh a lot. A sporting gun for such things is borderline scary.

Know a fella that had an 8 bore SxS double on him awhile back. He said the sky turned purple.

The barrel arrived yesterday. It's more like an artillery barrel.

That's a 45 caliber bullet in the bore.

At a time in my DISTANT past, I would have thought that that round would be UBER cool to fire. Thankfully, I've made it to near 70 without tripping that trigger; and think at this point in my life I would rather pass. But I hope you have fun with it; looks like if loud noise, heavy (obnoxious) recoil, and orthopedic consults are no problems for you go for it. I really do hope you enjoy firing that thing. No elephants in my garden. Thanks for posting.

I don't have any intentions of loading this rifle up to it's full potential. I'm not bothered much by recoil but I'm not masochistic either. A 3-4 dram load behind a round ball or 850 grain conical will do all I need to do. I'll play with these 1100 grainers but they are not my focus with this rifle. It should end up pretty heavy which will mitigate some of the recoil. I'll also include a nice thick recoil pad on the stock.
