Yesterday 15,000 german hunters came together in Düsseldorf to protest against plans for new, restrictive hunting laws for the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Proud of my fellow hunters...great demonstration of power cool

Shorten the list of huntable species, ban certain types of traps, forbid the shooting of poaching cats and dogs and various other things...

Good for them , that's a lot of orange and the horns are sure cause a stir, but the thing they need is political clout. As with any protest, marching will get attention , but with out a group pushing to get laws corrected they are just making noise. I support their motives , but they need to change the minds of bureaucrats.

Absolutely.
The protest march went to the state parliament. That is also the reason why the protest took place on a wednesday. Makes the high number of participants even more impressive.

Imagine if we could get that kind of response to proposed negative hunting changes over on this side of the pond, wouldn't that be nice.

Good on them.

We would have to plug a major interstate here just to register a 5 second blurb on the nightly news...

That is great to see. Good for them

How is media coverage for hunters gun owners in Germany? Fair?

In the US the media typically anti-gun, anti-hunting

I don't know why i haven't been on this forum before, but haven't. Recently i was talking to a guy in denmark through the campfire about the danish M1Garands that were reimported here after the danes went to another firearm. What i think is interesting is
historically i can trace through my name to Wedel, germany which is part of hamburg today, but in westphalia. Now a few years ago the germans dumped a bunch of really nice P6Sig sauer handguns, police issue, and they ended up here. Holsters included. Some of them were brand new. I get a special charge out of that westphalia marking on the slide. Something probably not easily owned there, but I don't mind owning it.

I think they have the same issues in europe as are present in various areas here, at least in some ways. Overly in your face government.
Those P6sig guns that came in the country. They had very well made police holsters with them. I asked a bavarian friend about the double snap holster, that made them very slow to get the gun out. He said they were intentionally made that way, as the police weren't really suppose to draw them. Only in last resort. If there was a problem, then to call in a "specially" trained swat team. He also said you could go to date of manufacture on slide and it was a good bet maybe one box of ammo per year fired through them to date of export. I don't think that firearms have ever been encouraged for the ordinary masses, anymore than hunting has been. Wouldn't want to fool with the kings deer.
