Picked up a stainless G2 Contender off the fire a few months back in 30-30 and sent the barrel off to MGM to be re-chambered to 30-30 Ackley Improved. The barrel came back yesterday and I got it all assembled with a DNZ mount and a Leupy 3-9 Ultimate Slam scope. Hope to get it out to the range next week to fire form some cases.

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, if I can ever find any, I'm thinking of loading it with the Barnes 110gr TAC TX for deer, antelope and the medium predators (Lions, Wolves and Coyotes).

Now for a question regarding the 30-30AI...

Do I HAVE to full length resize the AI brass or can I get away with neck sizing?

Thanks,

Stump

Have the same gun with an MGM barrel in 30/40 K. It just shoots very well.

Nice looking rig. Depending on the load, for a while you can probably neck size, but eventually you will need to bump back the shoulder. A single shot does not have strong extraction. For my .30-30AI I still partial size by setting the die to give a slight bump each time I resize.

If you can't find any Barnes bullets, you might try the Nosler 125 BTs. I am getting 2475 fps with Hornady 150 SSTs, but this fall I plan on using the Noslers.

I generally try to neck size after fireforming in the 30-30AI and variants, one cases are fully formed.

But, if you need to bump back body diameter a few thousandths you can use a .375 Winchester FL sizing die to so without altering shoulder position & creating headspace.

Slick little rig there, should be an excellent deer gun. I always wanted a blued/walnut Contender in 30-30 but ended up with a different caliber in an Encore, now I have to sell my barrel and get me a 30-30 pipe.
