What are your thoughts on how the two compare? Does the 17 stay with the 204 with downrange performance? Has anyone written an article on this comparison?

There is no comparison...... 2 different critters. The only similarities are the they are both sub-22 cal......

Two totally different critters there. If you were to compare a 17 Rem or a 17-204 they are close with 30 gr bullets but not the Hornet. Not to say anything bad about the Hornet, I would love to have one.

.17 Hornet is pretty close to the .17 Fireball best I can tell, performance wise. Albeit a bit slower.

On small game, you'll get dead at up to 500 yards with both. The .20 cals seem to blow 'em up better though.
