GW - I think the 7D MKII is a fine choice. I've been using a Canon XTi for quite a few years now (and a 100-400L) and when I am able to upgrade, it will more than likely be a 7D MKII as well.

I prolly should have held off on the 7D MkII, as far as the finances goes, but lust set in......

Learning to use it was rather intimidating at first, but I watched a ton of videos and got out and started shooting. I really like the dual disks and the ability to shoot both RAW and JPEG. That way I can download the JPEG disk and give it to family members who just want momentos and do not have the software or desire to process RAW images.

I've shot about 550 images so far.

Here are a few.

and an obligatory "hero" shot.........

anywho, needless to say, I'm having a ball learning to use this camera.

I'm also using the Canon Digital Professional imaging software at present, but will set up Lightroom 5 within the next month more than likely. I'm gonna do it right this time rather than rush into it.

Best,

GWB

The help you learn about the 7D, buy or borrow from a library, David D. Bush book for the 7DII. It will save you a lot of time.

I've been running a 7D for several years now and have been pleased with it for everything but studio work and low light. It's a great camera outside and for fast action. I would highly recommend incorporating Adobe Lightroom into your workflow if you haven't already. It can make a [bleep] picture good and a good picture incredible.

Sorry for the tardy response, just saw this.

Those are "leaf pattern damascus" by ABS Master Smith, Mike Williams. One is handled with dyed Sambar stag, the other is handled with a tusk from a female walrus, and stacked leather, 416 Stainless bolsters.
