I have been offered a Springfield A1 for $700.00

Is it a good gun? A Great gun?

I have a Colt National Match and I would consider it a great gun.

How does the Springfield compare?

Thanks.

Great 1911's in my experience. But for another $100 bucks, you can buy one of the Springfield Range Officer's or Loaded Models. They come from the factory with much better sights, match barrel, match trigger, holster, and usually a coupon for a deal in new Springfield 1911 mags. JMO, for whatever it's worth.

If I had $700 to spend on a 1911 I'd put it toward another Colt.

Springfield doesn't specifically offer an "A1" model and the price doesn't fit in very well either. If you are referring to a "Mil-Spec" model the price is too high, and it might be good price on some of the higher end offerings. Technically, all the 5" models are A1's.

Can you be more specific?

Once upon a time they did and it was a hell of a good gun. Not $700 good, but it made the company's reputation where 1911's are concerned.

A memory test, but I think those were cataloged as the "Standard" model.

Mine was made by Springfield's Custom Shop for the 2004 Shot Show. It has about every extra Springfield could put on a pistol.

Sam and Sarge,
These were indeed the precursors to my TRP, and fine weapons. A buddy has one that I drool over frequently.

He has no intention to sell.
