If you haven't noticed I have been putting up a few threads about scopes. I have decided to go with a variable power. I am looking at a Leupold VX1 3-9x40 and the Minox ZV3 4.5-14x44.....amoung a few others. A friend has a Leupold VX3 2.2-8x36 with a Boone and Crockett reticle for a real fair price.....not to sure on the this one as the reticle may be too busy for me.
Trying to stay around $200

If he's offering the VX3 in your stated price range, buy it. You'll get used to the reticle.

Rich don't complicate this thing. If you can, get the VX2 3-0X40. Best buy in the US for a scope at present. You can get the VX1 but you may later wish you had a little more scope. That wont happen with the VX2. powdr

For that kind of money, I would go with a 3-9X40mm Nikon @150.00 or a Nikon 4-12x40mm if you can find it on sale.

Go with the Leupold with the B&C reticle. The price alone makes it a better choice. I have a VX-3(4.5x14)with that reticle and always have it on 8 or 4.5 pwr. so I don't use the drop on the reticle. Shots have been 260 yards or less and this is why I am looking for a straight 6x for my next light weight coyote rifle. I really like the variable 8 and 10 power Leupolds with the B&C reticles but you have to go with what works and looks best to you when you look through it.

The Leupold 3x9 will work on long actions and are great scopes. I have one with the post & duplex reticle.

I have more VX-III's than anything but just bought a VX-2 3-9x40 with CDS from Cabela's for $249.99. I think that's just about best deal going. I'd look hard at that one too.

In $200 variables I like the burris FFII scopes. On the other hand the vx 3 would be a good choice. If the B&C is too busy you can get the title changed out later.

as someone else said, that price point go with nikon. Ive had 2 redfields and wish I would have got a nikon instead in same price point.
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.
