I'm having a rifle built this summer. With hopes of completion for the Pronghorn hunt in Oct. M700 Remington,10 twist Bartlein 2b in 30/06 cut to 25", Throated for 168gr B-Tips/A-Bonds,B&C Alaskan Ti. I'd like to mount a Leupold VXIII 3.5X-10X on it as a good all around deer/elk scope. Anyone here hunting Lopes with a 10X limit?

That should be a fine setup for antelope(or mule deer).
I have 2.5-8x36 B&C Leupolds on my 'antelope' rifles.
Some sort of drop compensation is nice(dots, turrets, etc.), that and a decent rangefinder.

I shot my last antelope with the scope set on 10X. He was just over 400 yards and I really wished I had taken time to turn the scope down. The animal filled up way too much of the sight picture for my liking. You need to figure a 'lope viewed at 400 yards with a 10x scope appears to be the same size as one 40 yards away would be if viewed with a 1x optic.

Used several rifles with Leupold's 3x-9x set on 6x and still killed antelope.

Killed em with a lot less than 10x.

Fixed 6x here. Never shot any big-game animal over 7x.

I use older model Leupold Mark 2 3x9x40 with Long Range Dotz on all my antelope rifles, so far so good. Thats what will be on my rifle this year as well. Last years buck, not big but well earned & fun hunt:)

Oh yeah, your proposed scope is good! I have hunted pronghorn with a .25-06, topped by a fixed 6x Leupold and have done just fine... I've only shot two pronghorn bucks, both were around 160 yards
The meat is delicious.
Good luck, and enjoy your hunt!

Thanks all. Good input here. I like the comparison between 10X @ 400 yds,and 1X @ 40 yds. Never thought of it that way before. I know Pronghorn are on the small side,so I was just curious what you all were using. The scope I'm looking at is the CDS model. I'll likely make use of the custom dial option. I just can't get used to stadia lines and stuff. I looked through a Vortex Viper yesterday with more than a few in it. Too much for my feeble mind to comprehend, lol. Otherwise nice glass. I'd say every bit the equal to the VXIII.

The CDS is a good option, it should work well for you and is pretty easy to get used to. You will have a fun hunt for sure, one word of warning though - antelope hunting is addicting!! This may well be your first hunt but I bet you it will not be your last one:)

2x7 , 3x9 , 3.5x10 , take your pick they will all work just find for any big game hunting . Hard to beat a straight 6 power for all use

I ordered the 3.5-10 CDS this morning. Midway has a sale on them right now. Didn't want to miss the good price,so we pulled the trigger. Or hit the button as it was.

Cool. My son is running a 3.5-10x Leupold on his 6mm Remington. Great combo. He keeps filling tags with that thing...
Enjoy!

If you are asking if 10x is enough at the top end for antelope I think the answer is yes. I have a couple of 3.5-10x Leupolds and I really like that scope. That is what was on my pronghorn rifle last year-set to 6x at the shot.

Another fan of the fixed 6X's here. Have shot a fair number of antelope in Wyoming and have never wanted or needed more when shooting at over 300yds.
The fixed 6's cost less, are more reliable, and kill antelope way out there. What's not to love?

I shoot all mine with a 6.5 Swede and a Leupold fixed 6X. I needed a new scope last year. I considered a 6x but not a single store in town carries fixed powers any more except by special order. I went with a 3-9 rather than wait for on online order.
