No smile

Believe it or not, that's only Extra Fancy, not "Presentation Grade" grin

I only buy Ruger #1's with nice wood, so I had to buy it on the Shiloh...so the Rugers couldn't laugh at it. smile

By the way, I ordered that one with a 13" length of pull, and it feels pretty nice to me. Ed many-letters picked it up last weekend, and commented the same. I'll probably order it again on the next Shiloh I order.

This is an original High Wall, that someone customized many moons ago to a carbine. Like my Shiloh it is a .45-90. It did thump a large sow a couple years ago.

I have a 77 on order and I want a piece of wood that nice. They say you can't put that kind of wood on a 77, but I hope they will...

"Extra Fancy" is an option. They do talk about English & Circassian on their site - "quote needed". grin Though Turk walnut isn't exactly traditional for a Sharps, even a 77, English might be cool smile

I've eyed the 77 a couple times, and priced one out. Definitely an heirloom piece.

The action is lighter. Might be a neat hunting rifle in .38-55, 26" std 1/2 octagon. Not traditional, but still neat.

Fantastic rifle, in handling and sheer grace,....the "English Sharps",....makes a '74 look like a Bulldog Mack Truck ( hint).

Weak in the wrist by it's basic design, a design DEMANDING the same PLAIN, boring, straight grained woods that were used on classic English DGRs, in both singles and doubles of the era.

...that's just the way it is.

I notice they don't list any of the 50's in that rifle. Didn't think about the wrist being weaker but I see your point.

I like the idea of a smaller caliber for our small deer, maybe a .38-55 or .40-65. I've looked at the small Sharps repros but a 77 with 26" std weight 1/2 Octagon barrel could be real interesting.

Got a new Girly gun chambered in the .44-75 Ballard Rick.

[Linked Image]

I still have my long shooters and freezer fillers. The .44-100 Rem st. and the .44-77 freezer filler.

[Linked Image]

My driving force wanted to come along refilling the freezer this time. Used the light weight .44-77

[Linked Image]

The old long rifles still fill a spot with me.

They still do a fine job filling the freezer.

Yes that was a nice one. He was a 2 1/2 year old and field dressed 238# at the check in.
In the past they took out some record book Bucks in this area before the DNR sent "Biologists" to thin out the herds.
I quit hunting Deer in this area and my back yard because I seldom see any anymore.
I gave his head to my Brother in law.

Here's a few I've posted before..

My very first Sharps, Shiloh 1874 #3 Sporter 45/110.. a special gift from several Camp Fire butt wipes I know. grin Still don't understand how I was this deserving but I'll always be grateful to ET,Jorge and Gunner for their kindness. It's almost illegal to have this much fun..
Can't forget my ground school mentors ET and Sharpsguy..Jim and Bill over the many months of waiting for my gun no doubt saved me much grief and wasted energies..thanks fellas!
