This morning I was in my LGS shipping coffee and shooting the breeze and the owner showed me a gently used Browning Model 71 Carbine that had a Williams receiver sight, a red fiber optic front sight and sling.
The wood is almost blonde in color and the overall condition is excellent.
What is the going price on the Browning M71 Carbine these days?
When these came out in 1986 I wanted one in the rifle configuration but since then I have inherited my granddad's 1951 Winchester Model 71; but I'm thinking a carbine to hunt with and send the Winchester to Turnbull for a facelift so I can pass it on to the next generation.
The usual internet sites are showing some pretty high asking prices for the Browning.

A number of outfits making 71's (new Winchesters, Pedersoli, Turnbull, I think Cimmaron, etc.)in the last few years seem to have brought the prices way down, last I checked. A local guy has been advertising a nice standard Browning 71 rifle with peep for $975 for at least 8 months with no takers. I certainly think they are nice rifles and wouldn't mind having one. Above observation aside, I would like to watch this thread to see what others think they would go for now.

Well, instead of waiting I went ahead and put a down payment on it this afternoon and it's now on lay-away.
$700 out the door.

I don't think that was a bad deal, especially for a carbine. That would be my favorite iteration of the 71.

Picked mine up on GB for less than 800, was pretty happy with that price. 700 out the door is a smokin deal.

Mine is the rifle, not the carbine. My bro has a carbine. It is somewhat handier than mine, easier to carry. But is kicks a tad more I guess because it weighs a tad less.
You going to load for it?

I have a browning 71 carbine and absolutely love it.
Throw a Lyman peep sight on it and you will not be disappointed. Very nice trigger, super handy, devastating on whitetails.
