I'm going to do a short barreled, mannlicher stocked 7X57 this year. I seriously doubt it'll be finished this year but I'm going to get started.
What I have in mind is a 19" barrel, banded front and rear sights, custom scope bases, BRNO ZG-47 safety, Timney trigger, Weibe Orbendorf style bolt handle, Lever release floorplate and a shotgun style trigger guard.
The components are: G33/40 action Krieger FTW barrel NECG banded sight bases BRNO ZG-47 safety
I have a stunningly beautiful Turkish mannlicher blank for it that has excellent layout, good figure and just the right amount of fiddleback.
The stock will be patterned off of a modified BRNO 22F pattern. I'm taking about half of the drop out of it and adding a mid forearm schnable along a shadow line check piece.
It'll be a nice mix of old world styling with a few modern touches. Very nice project! .... I'd like to do something similar in a 20" 6.5x57.

BRNO did that to all the G33/40's. It was done to reduce weight. The G33/40 was designed as a mountain carbine and is of the nicest Mil-Surp's to come out of that war.
They fetch mega bucks in original condition these days. Thanks. Guess I should read more! I have dozens of M98's in various configurations but have never seen a G33/40. But I do live under a rock. I think that the G33-40 carbines were actually made in Germany; the Brno production were VZ-33s. In any case, as always, Terry's concepts and taste in fine rifles is beyond exquisite and I slaver over every one he shows us. I have a Brno ZG polished receiver action, 3-pos. installed and may buy a Dressels trigger for this one; it will get a Benchmark or Jury sts tube, 9,3x62 at 21" and REcknagel irons, Talley QDs and a MPI handle. It is to be my backpacking rifle and will be Cerakoted. I have coming a minty Parker-Hale Hussar, .308NM, will strip for the factory modded short mag. action and get a STS .338 tube, sights and mounts as above and maybe a Canadian Wildcat carbon stock. This, will be my last .338WM, a dream rifle for 30+ years and will be MY GUN...... Then, I still have two Brno 21H actions to build on and am not certain what to do.

The G33/40 was an (occupied) BRNO product. I promise Two 21H actions to build on. That would be a nice problem to have.

Not a build exactly, but I am rebarreling a minty Ruger Tang Safety. It will be rebarreled to a 7x64mm Brenneke. The stock is nicely grained, but typically Ruger portly. So I will be slimming it down a fair bit, and the new giving it a refinish.

When I found the G33/40 I had to punt on the Doumlin mauser project. I have another in .338-06 and I'll have to get by with it.

That is going to be one hell of a rifle. I'll be waiting anxiously for photos of the finished rife. That stick of wood is nothing short of breathtaking.

Guys, I have a project ongoing with a 09 Argentine action that Reto Buehler worked over for me. He fitted the Swift/Blackburn bottom metal and trigger, added a new bolt handle, made the custom bases for Talley rings, had the action re-heat-treated, fitted a Lothar Walther barrel, and chambered it for the 9.3x64 Brenneke cartridge, worked over the feeding, and polished the action. He then shipped the metal to Gary Goudy to whittle out a stock from a very nice but relatively plain stick of European Circassian walnut that I provided. I'll provide photos of the finished rifle when I get it back. Hopefully, that will be in time for Christmas. This is the 09 action that I sent to Reto. After Reto finished with it. The stick of Circassian I'm using. Gary Goudy stock in progress.

Haven't decided exactly as yet, but most likely I'll use a Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x33. I'm very fond of that scope these days. Unfortunately, scope manufacturers these days make their scopes with tubes so short that without resorting to offset rings, its getting difficult to mount the scope that I really want to use and I'm finding more and more frequently that I have to mount a scope that will fit rather than what I really want. I'll keep you guys posted when Gary finishes with the rifle.

Guys, To add to what I've already submitted on my in-progress 9.3x64 Brenneke based on a 09 Argentine model 98, I received a few photos this morning from Gary Goudy. The stock, with the exception of checkering, is now done. Checkering should be finished next month sometime. See what you think. TT
